Practitioner Ms. Pei Shuhua was "illegally arrested1" when she told the facts of Falun Dafa to people on November 4th, 2005. To protest the persecution she immediately went on hunger strike, which has now lasted for over two weeks. Instead of releasing her, the authorities transferred her to the central hospital of Jilin Province Prison Administration Bureau and continued their persecution. Visits by her family members have not been permitted. We still do not know if she is alive or dead or what her current condition is.

Ms. Pei Shuhua, 54 years old, was a nurse at the Shuangyang District Hospital in Changchun City, Jilin Province. In 1998 she started to practise Falun Dafa. Her body and mind changed a great deal, especially her behaviour. She became a good person in every situation, a change obvious to all at her workplace. Because she benefited from Falun Dafa physically and mentally, her belief in Dafa was firm and she was very diligent.

On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to suppress Falun Gong with fabricated evidence. To uphold Dafa, Ms. Pei told the facts to government agencies and as a result suffered from severe persecution. At the end of 1999, Ms. Pei went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa and was detained for one month. Later, she was sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a forced labour camp. In October 2002, when her term was completed, she refused to be "transformed2" and was again sent to the Xinglongshan brainwashing centre in Changchun City. After the brainwashing failed, she was sent back to Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp and detained, although there were no legal proceedings. Ms. Pei did not cooperate with any requests from the evildoers and protested the persecution in various ways. In October 2003, she showed serious symptoms of severe illnesses. The labour camp was afraid being held responsible and released her.

Ms. Pei Shuhua was not only tortured physically and spiritually, but also financially. During her stay in the forced labour camp, her workplace violated relevant laws and terminated her wages. When she was released from the labour camp, she was penniless (she lived alone) and could not afford to buy rice or oil. She could not afford heat in winter, and her home was as cold as ice. She repeatedly asked to go to work but was refused. Later, her workplace gave her 300 yuan3 per month as a living allowance. This August, at her strong request, her workplace promised to let her go back to work.

Although Ms. Pei Shuhua suffered from severe persecution, she never changed her mind in upholding Dafa. To help more people know the truth about Falun Dafa she also distributed a great deal of leaflets exposing the persecution and VCDs in her spare time. She travelled to many villages and cities.

On August 31st, 2005, she was reported and arrested when she was distributing materials in the Pinghu residential buildings in the Shuangyang District. She went on a hunger strike for five days and walked out of the forced labour camp with righteous thoughts.

On November 4th, 2005, less than two and half months later, she was again reported and arrested when she told the facts to elementary school students. The police plotted to send her to a forced labour camp, so she went on a hunger strike to protest the arrest and detention. It has been over 20 days. The police have been reckless with her life and safety and have refused to release her. They transferred her several times and finally sent her to the central hospital of Jilin Province Prison Administration Bureau to continue the persecution. Visits from her family members have been prohibited, and we don't know if she is alive or dead.

We urgently call on all governments and all righteous people to extend their help to appeal to the Chinese government to obey the laws it established and to reinstate religious freedom for Dafa practitioners, to help those determined Dafa practitioners in China who are persecuted because of their insistent belief, to help those people get out of the dens of evil as soon as possible, and to help Ms. Pei Shuhua get out of danger immediately.

Note

1. “Illegally arrested”: Contrary to what former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, and the Chinese Communist Party would like the world to believe, practising Falun Gong is NOT illegal in China. Although the Public Security Department issued an unconstitutional set of restraints on the practice at the onset of the persecution in 1999, no laws have been passed by the only legislative body in China, the People's Congress, banning Falun Gong or granting the police the authority to arrest Falun Gong practitioners for practising the exercises or distributing leaflets.

2. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")

3. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
