On Saturday, September 17th, a trade fair opened its doors in Ghent, Belgium. China’s Hebei province was the trade fair's special guest. On the same day, Falun Dafa practitioners organised a anti-torture exhibition in Ghent to expose the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China and Hebei province in particular.

When seeing the atrocities that practitioners in China suffer, many people expressed their disgust about the persecution of Falun Gong and signed a petition to help rescue the orphaned children of Falun Gong practitioners killed in the persecution.

The anti-torture exhibition is an effective way to attract people’s attention and help them learn about the persecution against Falun Gong

The weather started out a bit cloudy as the practitioners set up their materials: an exhibition displaying the iron cage, the hanging and the tiger bench tortures on the left, the petition table with leaflets and other materials in the middle, and various banners and posters exposing details of the evil persecution and, contrastingly, expressing the beauty of Falun Dafa. Dutch practitioners came to assist the Belgian practitioners.

As well as leaflets directly exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, practitioners displayed copies of “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”, a publication by international newspaper The Epoch Times that reveals the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) history of suppression and persecution of the Chinese people. The CCP and former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin are responsible for launching and maintaining the persecution of Falun Gong, which has resulted in the loss of over 2,700 lives. The practitioners hoped that reading the “Nine Commentaries” will help people to further understand why the CCP is persecuting 100 million innocent Falun Gong practitioners so brutally.

People were keen to find out more and voice their condemnation of the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights abuses

Many people were shocked to learn that such atrocities still exist in the 21st century, in a country that is in the limelight as often as China. Quite a number of people were moved to tears, while others showed somewhat less surprise reflecting that "it's still [a] communist [regime] over there."

The activity went well. At a certain moment, the sky darkened with heavy rain clouds, and you could hear people say, "It's going to rain." A cold wind that seemed to go straight through the body made everyone feel really cold inside. Raindrops fell. Practitioners kept a righteous attitude and did not allow the dark clouds to interrupt the activity.

After the activity, the practitioners got together for dinner, study of Falun Dafa's principles, and discussion. They concluded that the activity had been a success, and discussed where they could do even better next time.

The next day a local television station reported very positively about the anti-torture exhibition. The situation of Falun Dafa practitioners in China and the cruel nature of the persecution were very well explained to all those watching the TV programme. Obviously the TV crew had well understood what the situation in China is like, and was thus able to create a positive and accurate news report.
