Information from Falun Dafa Information Centre in New York, January 29, 2002 -- Hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners and supporters will gather in front of the Waldorf Hotel for four days and nights, starting on Jan. 31st, to raise awareness about Falun Gong and demonstrate to attendees of the World Economic Forum that the persecution of Falun Gong in China is a hindrance to business and stability in China as well as peace and prosperity throughout the world.

A press conference was held on January 31st, Thursday morning at 11:30AM in front of the Falun Gong demonstration area, featuring the following speakers:
· Mr. Alfredo Minor, a business owner in Italy who also owns a factory in China. He was recently denied entry to China, and subsequently could no longer attend to his factory, because of his support for Falun Gong.
· The first public appearance by Mr. Tan Yongjie, a 27-year-old factory worker and Falun Gong practitioner from China who made headline news in the U.S. in August, 2001, for his daring escape from captors in China who burned his outer and inner thighs with a cattle iron.
· Ms. Amy Lee, a fashion designer who was detained and tortured in China before escaping to the US.
· Spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Information Centre
According to Falun Dafa Information Centre, peaceful demonstrations and candlelight vigils will be held on February 1st and 2nd.
