Falun Dafa Practitioner Li Maofen from Zaozhuang City, Shandong Province was frequently persecuted, and she died on June 12th, 2005. Even on the day of her death the police were still monitoring her from in front of her home. The following is her story:

Ms. Li Maofen, who was over 60 years old, was from Zaozhuang City, Shandong Province. Before she learnt Falun Gong in 1997 she had many illnesses, including high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, oedema, and pain in the lower back and legs. After she practised Falun Gong for six months, all her illnesses disappeared. On April 25th, 1999 she was one of the first group of practitioners in the Zaozhuang area who went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong to the leaders of the country. On her return, the local police blacklisted her as a Falun Gong organiser and called her to the police station for questioning many times. They pressured her and asked her about the appeal process and who had organised the appeal. After July 20th, 1999, when the persecution began, she went to Beijing to appeal again and was arrested at Tiananmen Square by the Beijing police. Later she was transferred to Changping County and then to Yanqing County. Because she firmly resisted the evildoers, and participated in a group hunger strike for five days, she was then released.

To print and distribute Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution Ms. Li arranged financing, bought computer and printing equipment, and operated the materials production site very well. She made and distributed the materials and expended much of her own resources. Later as the persecution escalated, she was reported for handing out these materials and the police and authorities from the 610 Office1 searched her home. They forcibly confiscated a lot of leaflets, arrested her and took her to Zibo City. She was sent to a forced labour camp where she suffered severe persecution.

Sadly she gave in to the so-called "reformation."2 Li Maofen's family bailed her out for 2,000 yuan,3 however the lawless persons from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continued persecuting her. They arrested her and searched her home repeatably. Li Maofen suffered from mental trauma, and she declared the voiding of her "reformation" against her conviction many times. Under the long-term pressure and harassment her legs became swollen. The swelling extended up to her lower back, and she was unable to walk or even get out of bed.

Later Ms. Li Maofen was again arrested for handing out leaflets exposing the persecution. The lawless persons followed and monitored her, and forced her family members to monitor her. They also threatened that if she went out to appeal for Falun Gong again they would not allow her son to work. Due to the Party's threats, her family began to turn against her Falun Gong practice. Her health again deteriorated and her family sent her to a hospital. After she returned from the hospital, with fellow practitioners' help, she again started to study the Falun Dafa books and practise the exercises.

When the corrupt police officers discovered that Li Maofen had frequent contact with fellow practitioners, they again searched her home. Due to the persecution she had symptoms of illness once again, and it was even worse. She even fell into a coma. While she was unable to get out of bed the police again came to search her home and confiscate the materials. Her family sent her to a hospital again. Due to the on-going persecution, Li Maoying died on June 12th, 2005. Even on the day of her death the police had dispatched a police van in front of her home to monitor her.
