Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Sun Jianqiu, in his 40s, was a farmer in Changle County, Shandong Province. In January 2001, Mr. Sun was arrested and sent to the local detention centre, and he went on a hunger strike for more than 20 days. He was then sentenced to forced labour at the Wangchun Labour Camp. He died when someone struck him on the head while he was doing Falun Dafa exercises.

When Mr. Sun's body was sent back home from Wangchun Labour Camp, there was gauze wrapped around his head. Armed policemen were guarding his body, not allowing his family to get close. They spread a rumour that Mr. Sun committed suicide by hanging himself. Local police were taking turns watching his family members, and not allowing them to contact any practitioners.

Mr. Sun Jianqiu's wife Gao Liping, 43 years old, is also a farmer in Changle County, Shandong Province. When Mr. Sun was tortured to death, their child was about six years old.

Before Mr. Sun died, Ms. Gaoliping was sentenced to forced labour in January 2001 for practising Falun Gong. She was detained in Jiangshuiqua Women Labour Camp in Jinan City, and released in November 2003. She wrote many letters to her husband during her detention, but never received any letters back. The labour camp refused to let her family visit her or write to her. Finally Camp Guard Kong Yanxia (female), representing the labour camp lied to her, telling her that her husband had hung himself.

Mr. Sun is survived by his parents, his wife, and his young child. Local policemen had confiscated all their valuables before Ms. Gao was sent to the forced labour camp, including a worn out mat, and a partition door. There is not even a towel left in their house now.
