Ms. Gao Chunhua, who is in her late 60s, lived in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. In February 2001, she was arrested for clarifying the truth (1) of Falun Dafa. She was sent to Dalian Forced Labour Camp to be persecuted. While in detention, she was shocked with electric batons. Later she had difficulty swallowing food. A diagnosis found that she had a tumour in her esophagus. In July she was released, but the local police still ordered that she write a "repentance statement" (2) every month and report to the police station. She firmly rejected this, however her husband was afraid so he wrote a repentance statement for her and turned it in.

On April 25, 2002, the police went to her home again to harass her. Failing to find anything they considered evidence to convict her, the police left, but returned two nights later. This time her family refused to let them in. Ever since then, her family lived in constant fear. In order not to get into trouble, her family forced her to go out to play mahjong with friends during the day, and at night they watched over her, and prevented her from practising Falun Gong exercises. Soon her old illnesses relapsed. She was checked into hospital, however despite the medical treatment, she passed away in April 2003.

Ms. Chen Shoulan was a Falun Gong practitioner from Hongtoushan Mine, Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. On July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was sent back to Qingyuan and fined 1,000 yuan (3). After that, the Hongtoushan Mine authorities forced her on many occasions to write the three statements denouncing Falun Gong. They also forced her to attend brainwashing classes and forced her to do hard labour. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. On November 15, 2003, she passed away, at the age of 42.

Mr. Hu Xuewen was a Falun Gong practitioner from Tukouzi Village, Qingyuan County. He learned Falun Dafa in 1998, and his illnesses all disappeared. After the persecution began in 1999, he was often harassed by the local police station. In August 2002, he was abducted and sent to a brainwashing class where he was brutally tortured. On October 2, 2003, he passed away, at the age of 56.

Ms. Li Shuqin was a Falun Gong practitioner from Tukouzi Village, Qingyuan County. After she started practising Falun Dafa in 1997, her illnesses were all cured. After the persecution began in 1999, she was constantly harassed, and she was fined 1,000 yuan. In the beginning of February 2004, she passed away, at the age of 49.

Ms. Xing Guirong was a Falun Gong practitioner in her 60's from Qingyuan County. After she obtained Dafa in 1996, she became very healthy. After the persecution began in 1999, she was constantly harassed. As a result, her illnesses relapsed. She passed away on May 9, 2004.

Note:

(1) Clarifying the Truth: Because of the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong in China, and the fact that the unrelenting hate -campaign carried out by China’s state-controlled media, Falun Gong publish and broadcast nothing but false and slanderous reports about Falun Gong and cover up the brutal persecution taking place in China, practitioners inside and outside of China have been actively engaged in what is referred to as "clarifying the truth" – explaining to the public the facts about Falun Gong and exposing the evil persecution. Truth clarification activities include face to face conversations with people, posting notices and posters, handing out flyers, and hanging banners explaining the truth about Falun Gong. Outside of China, where Falun Gong is freely practised, practitioners further expose the persecution in China through anti-torture re-enactments, art exhibits, Internet websites, books, magazines, newspapers, movies and letter writing. The goal of clarifying the truth is to help people understand what Falun Gong is and, to raise public awareness and support, in order to dispel the lies of the current communist regime in China and to raise public support to to bring about the end of the persecution. (Variations: "clarifying the truth", "truth clarifying", "truth-clarifying", "truth clarification", "truth-clarification", "clarifying the facts", "clarified the truth", and "clarified the facts")

(2) Repentance Statement: In this statement the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practising Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.

(3) "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
