In 2000, she was arrested by the local town police station and fined 500 yuan. Later the local "610 Office" (2) police often came to her home to harass her. As a result, Li suffered both mentally and physically. In 2002, she developed breast cancer. On April 17, 2002, she died at the age of 52.
