Ukraine: Film Portraying Persecution Against Falun Gong Practitioners at the Human Rights International Cinema Festival

The movie “Sandstorm”, produced and directed by Michael Mahonen, was shown at the Human Rights International Cinema Festival. The festival took place in Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine, from the 9th to the 13th of December 2004. This Festival was the first of its kind in Kiev.

On the 15th of December, a national Ukraine TV channel screened a brief report about “Sandstorm” and talked about Canadian producer Michael Mahonen participating in the human rights festival. The report featured an interview with Michael Mahonen and a Falun Gong practitioner from Kiev. Scenes from the film depicting the torture used against Falun Gong practitioners were also shown and objective remarks were made about the persecution of Falun Gong, which has lasted more than five years in China.

The movie “Sandstorm” exposes the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China,. The picture is based on the facts which are real in our time in China. “Sandstorm” has won more than seventeen awards at film festivals around the world.
