A Call for Support: Associate Professor Zhang Mengye, a Former Classmate of Hu Jintao, Is Pursued by the Police

Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Mengye is 66 years old. He was an associate professor at Guangdong Province Institute of Electric Industry. He was also a classmate of Chinese president Hu Jintao at the Water Conservancy Engineering Department in Tsinghua University in 1959. Zhang Mengye has retired from the Institute and is now working for a private company. Lawless government officials have abducted and persecuted him on many occasions because he practises Falun Gong. On December 13, 2004, the police again tried to abduct Zhang Mengye and his wife, Luo Muluan. They have been in a stalemate with the police for four days. More details follow.

On Monday, December 13, 2004, personnel from the Tianhe District 610 Office and the Street Committee went to Zhang Mengye's home. Zhang Mengye and his wife said they would persist in their practice of Falun Dafa and clarified the truth about the illegal persecution. The perpetrators tried to abduct Zhang Mengye, but the couple firmly refused to cooperate with them.

On December 14, Zhang Mengye was preparing to go to work when two cars pulled up in front of the residential area. Liu, head of the 610 Office, Zeng and Chen Changyi, officials from a brainwashing class, and five or six people who claimed to be police rushed out of from the other building and tried to take Zhang Mengye away. Zhang's wife, Luo Muluan, stood on the balcony and shouted, "The people from 'the 610' Office' are trying to take away an innocent person!" Many people heard her and came out to watch. Many of the residents in the building are teachers. There is no protective railing on the 6th floor balcony, and Luo Muluan could have fallen from the building if she had taken a step forward. The perpetrators from the 610 Office were afraid and left without taking Mr. Zheng away. The couple 'has not left home since that incident, and the police have not come again. The Institute asked Zhang Mengye to pick up a New Year's bonus but he didn't go.

We also call on Zhang Mengye's family, friends and colleagues to take action and help them!

We call on President Hu Jintao to help Zhang Mengye and show concern for this blatant violation of the law and of citizens' rights that is taking place in China right now.

Attachment 1: My report to the Procuratorate was unreasonably rejected

By Zhang Mengye

My name is Zhang Mengye and I am a 66-year-old Falun Gong practitioner. I used to work as an associate professor at the Guangdong Province Institute of Electric Industry. In November 1999, the Institute fired me for practising Falun Gong.

Since July 20, 1999 when Jiang Zemin ordered the persecution of Falun Gong, my human rights have been severely violated. In March 2004, "the government respects and protects human rights" was added to the Constitution of China during the Second Session of The Tenth National People's Congress. Soon, president Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao emphasized the country should be ruled according to the Constitution. The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced that beginning in May 2004, all Procuratorate offices in China will investigate civil servants' abuse of power and violations of human rights within one year. The TV and newspapers said, "Quick, report human rights violations." It seemed as if this time the government was taking its promise seriously. However, around The Two Party Conferences in March 2004, some steadfast Falun Gong practitioners who persist in the practice of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance in Guangzhou City were arrested, and similar incidents took place in other parts of the country.

In order to clarify the truth, to expose and end the persecution, my wife and I went to the Guangzhou City People's Procuratorate for the first time in mid September 2004 (abbreviated as City Procuratorate). The officials at the Procuratorate's office refused to see us. We were told that the officials at the Reporting Centre had gone out to investigate cases. Over a week later we went to the Procuratorate for the second time. Prosecutor Yao received us and listened to my story of the miraculous healing effects of Falun Gong and the persecution I suffered because I persisted in my belief. Prosecutor Yao said, "Write a report detailing the persecution you suffered and turn it in to the City Procuratorate."

On October 12, I made an official delivery of the report to the Procuratorate. For more details on the report please refer to http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/12/19/55721.html.

Prosecutor Yao told me to wait for a response via telephone.

Three days later, on October 15, I received a phone call from Prosecutor Yao, who told me that he had consulted his superiors and now he would give me a response. The main points he claimed were, "The Falun Gong issue is the government's action;" "The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has already reached a decision on this issue;" "the nature of Falun Gong has already been determined;" "the government is acting according to the law, although officials who carry out the 'reform' inevitably cause harm," and "it is impossible for us to handle that."

Obviously, this was not Prosecutor Yao's personal opinion because it' was a response from his superiors. It shows the government is still deceiving the people on the issue of Falun Gong.

In fact, anyone with a sense of justice who reads my report would realize that illegally detaining me in the Legal Education School, which is a brainwashing class, and constant abuse at the labour camp are the most severe forms of human rights violations! According to my knowledge, other Falun Gong practitioners who had reported human rights violations against them with the Guangdong Province High People's Procuratorate and the City Procuratorate received responses similar to mine. Even now, the government does not show any sincerity in taking solid steps to improve human rights conditions.

I therefore hope the government can learn the truth about the afflictions of the persecuted practitioners and about Falun Gong, and stop deceiving and persecuting the people. The government should be sincere on the issue of human rights and bring some real benefits to the people, stop using propaganda as a cover-up to deceive the world and the Chinese people while secretly persecuting Falun Gong. Such deceitful acts will bring tremendous disasters upon the Chinese people. The laws of the universe will eventually deal with those people who instigated and participated in the persecution of Falun Gong!
