Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhang Shouguang from Nongan County, Jilin Province was persecuted for going to Beijing to peacefully appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. After that, he was hounded by the police for a long time and died on December 24, 2001.

Mr. Zhang Shouguang was 63 years old. He started practising Falun Gong in 1996. Before then, he suffered from coronary heart disease, a stroke, diabetes, and numbness of the throat. While his life was in danger during his stay in a hospital in Changchun City, the doctor told him that his case was hopeless. After he returned home, he listened to Master Li Hongzhi's lecture tapes, and his health greatly improved. From that point on, he started to practise Falun Dafa.

In November 2000 he went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Dafa but was illegally detained by the Nongan County Police Department. His home was searched, and his family was fined.

On June 26, 2001, while he was at home, the Nongan County Police Department took him away and put him into detention. He was abused during the detention. After he was released, due to the long-time harassment and threats, he was no longer able to study the teachings or practise the exercises. His illnesses relapsed, and he died on December 24, 2001.
