Ms. Li Mei from Maogang District, Maoming City, Guangdong Province, became a Falun Dafa practitioner in late 1997 and tragically died from torture-related injuries at age 48. After the persecution started in July 1999, the local police arrested Ms. Li and detained her at Zhijiang Farms [a detention centre] for over a month. On January 24, 2001, Ms. Li was again detained a Detention Centre. At the brainwashing centre, Li Mei suffered brutal torture, and was injected with drugs that damaged her nervous system and left her disoriented and confused. Consequently, she was no longer able to take care of herself after her release on August 2, 2003. Li Mei passed away on June 24, 2004.

She left behind two daughters, 14-year-old Li Guanggen and 10-year-old Li Guanghua, who is a student at an Elementary School in Poxin Town. Their father does seasonal labour away from home. The children are left in the care of Li Mei's 95-year-old mother-in-law who also needs to attend to housework with meagre resources. The family's situation is heartbreaking.
