Ms. Li Shuhua was a practitioner from Yushu City, Jilin Province. She left behind her two young sons Yang Kai and Yang Hang, who are being taken care of by their grandparents. Local practitioners have voluntarily helped them with their living expenses. At around 9 a.m. on September 24, 2003, deputies Jiang Wei, Li Mingchao and a Mr. Dong, all from the Peiying Police Station, abducted Li Shuhua from her home. She was tortured to death less than half a month after her abduction. Yang Kai and Yang Hang's father, Yang Zhanjiu, was abducted and sentenced to seven years in prison in April 2004. He is being detained at the Siping Prison in Jilin Province.

Yang Kai was born in 1993 and Yang Hang in 1994. Both boys live at Zu #1, Wei #1, Peiying Street, Yushu City, Jilin Province, telephone 86-431-3693114. They both attend

Yushu City Normal College Attached Primary School in Jilin Province. Yang Kai is in the 3rd Class in the 5th Grade. Yang Hang is in the 1st Class in the 4th Grade.

Their mother Li Shuhua was born in 1972 and worked as a tailor. She started practising Falun Gong in 1996, and her home was one of the group study sites. Since July 20, 1999, she was abducted and her home ransacked many times. She was also put under illegal surveillance. The Yushu City police had abducted other practitioners from her home and even interrogated her regular customers who came to her home for alterations. Whenever the so-called "sensitive days" approached, the police would harass her, and the neighbourhood association would set up surveillance activities around her home. Li Shuhua was tortured to death in October 2003.

At around 9 a.m. on September 24, 2003, deputies Jiang Wei, Li Mingchao and a Mr. Dong of the Peiying Police Station came to visit Li Shuhua at her home. They asked her to come with them to the police station to file a report. They said she would be done in 10 minutes. Li Shuhua never returned. On October 9, 2003, the news of her death came. Li Shuhua started a hunger strike as soon as she was placed in the detention centre. Deputy Peng, the guard supervisor for the woman's cell, threatened, "No food? Well, let's force feed her with a high concentration saline solution." They further ordered inmates in the cell to mentally coerce her. After Li Shuhua lost consciousness twice and became extremely weak physically, they carried her to the medical office for further torture. Her painful screams could be heard clearly by other inmates from within their cells. Afraid that people could hear her screaming in pain, they dragged Li Shuhua to the backyard to continue beating her. After she was tortured to death, the police concealed the story of her death from others. When her husband Yang Zhanjiu (who was also under detention at the same place) asked of her whereabouts, Police Station Chief Wang and the guard supervisor blatantly lied and told him, "She was released."

When her relatives saw Li Shuhua lying in the refrigerated box, they could see the obvious makeup, and her eye sockets still showed definite bruise marks. There were red spots all over her chest, back and arms. Her left eye was noticeably caved in. During her autopsy, they discovered that there were large amount of blood and liquid inside her abdomen. Other than her pants, all of her clothes were someone else's. Her feet were bare and there were no shoes or socks. It's unimaginable how much she had suffered from the torture.

Her husband, Yang Zhanjiu, was born in 1970. He worked as a mason. He started practising Falun Gong in 1996 and was a volunteer assistant in Yushu City. He was abducted three times and sentenced to a labour camp twice since July 20, 1999. In the summer of 2002, he was abducted again and detained at the Yushu Detention Centre for more than one year. Yang protested with a hunger strike against the prolonged detention. On the fourth day, the prison doctor Li and several inmates started force feeding him and three other practitioners who were also on hunger strikes. They initially used high concentration saline solutions. Later they added some milk powder, which made the feeling even worse once it reached the stomach. The practitioners repeatedly vomited the mixture. On the 19th day of Yang's hunger strike, Dr. Li and Guard Supervisor Wang tied Yang to the bed so that he could not move at all. They left the force-feeding tube in his stomach over night and ordered inmates to watch over him, reporting at once if there was any abnormal situation. In April 2004, Yang was sentenced to seven years in prison. He is being detained at the Siping Prison in Jilin Province.

Li Shuhua's mother Cui Zhanyun is 59 years old, and she started practising Falun Gong in 1996. She was abducted six times and sentenced to a labour camp twice. The one time she was abducted to the Yushu Police Station, she was released only after suffering severe injury due to police brutality and torture.

Li Shuhua's father Li Fuchen is 60 years old. He worked as a labourer in the Yushu City Department of Environmental Protection. He now sympathises with and supports Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners, especially since his daughter Li Shuhua was tortured to death in October 2003 and his son-in-law Yang Zhanjiu was abducted. During the time his wife Cui Zhanyun was detained in the labour camp, he took care of his two grandchildren, and they became his only hope for survival, as living alone as an elderly person can be extremely difficult. They depended on each other and took care of each other. He was deeply touched when the local practitioners extended their helping hands. Some brought over ready-to-eat meals, some brought money and household items, and some helped them with their household chores.
