Telling people about July the 20th

July the 20th, 1999 is a day that saddened millions of people. On that day, Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin and his group started its ferocious suppression of Falun Gong in China. Appalling persecution cases continue to pour in from China. Unfortunately, brutal, inhuman mistreatment still continues in today's civilised society.

Falun Gong practitioners have come to realise that when everyone all over the world learns of the persecution, when Chinese administrators and law enforcement personnel are no longer deceived by Jiang's lies, and when kind hearts and voices of justice are gathered together, the senseless persecution will come to an end.

On July the 23rd, 2004, approximately 80 Falun Gong practitioners from Tainan City gathered at the busy Chiaodong Road to hold a candlelight vigil. In this way, they memorialised the practitioners who died as a result of being persecuted for not giving up their beliefs.

A 93-year-old practitioner continuously distributed leaflets containing the true facts about Falun Gong along the road, without taking a break until the activity concluded. In order to rescue her husband Lin Tsiao-kai, who was unlawfully detained by Shanghai National Security last year, Ms. Chen Shu-ya worked to raise awareness. Her appeal received Taiwanese President Chen's attention, and her husband was successfully rescued and brought home. Now, even though she is pregnant, she is even more diligent in rescue efforts.

Seeking support

With assistance from the Tainan Cities No. 4 and No. 6 Police Bureaus, an appeal letter was successfully delivered to the President of Taiwan Mr. Chen Shui-pian. The expressed their gratitude to the Taiwan government for providing a free cultivation environment for Falun Gong practitioners, which contrasts sharply with the atrocities in China. Practitioners said that this is a blessing for Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners and also a blessing for the Taiwanese people. Practitioners hope that more people with a sense of justice will pay attention to and help stop the Jiang group's extension of the persecution into other countries.

After listening to Falun Gong practitioners' introduction of the persecution in China, as well as the shooting incident in South Africa, Tainan City councillor Hong Yu-feng and Wang Jia-zhen held a Falun Gong press conference. They emphasised respecting basic human rights and condemned the violence and terrorism. Ms. Wang Jia-zhen also mentioned that she could see people practising Falun Gong in a nearby park everyday. Those who practise Falun Gong always look so peaceful and have a smile on their faces. She could not imagine how Jiang's group could commit such atrocities against these people.

Appeals will continue until the persecution is stopped

Groups of Falun Gong practitioners are continually seen at roadsides or tourist attractions. Their resolute, persistent spirit moves people, and is awakening people's conscience. We believe that sooner or later, everyone in the world will come together and put a stop to the persecution.
