Ms. Yuan Cuirong, a resident of Zhoukou City in Henan Province, died with injustice in her heart on June 21, 2003. She was 57 years old.

Ms. Yuan Cuirong started Falun Dafa cultivation in May 1999. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on Chinese New Year's eve of 2000. Later she was illegally detained in the Zhoukou City Detention Centre. The police demanded that her family members pay a fine of more than 2,000 Yuan (1). Her family members refused to accede to the police's unreasonable demands. Therefore, the police sent Yuan Cuirong to the Shibalihe Female Forced Labour Camp in Zhengzhou City to be persecuted.

After being subjected to brutal and savage persecution in the forced labour camp, Yuan Cuirong went against her conscience and said she would give up her belief in Falun Dafa. After that, she spoke very little to anyone, and every day she was in low spirits and depressed. One day she fell down the stairs and fractured her lower vertebra. The labour camp authorities told her family to bring money for her treatment. She was not released until four months later. Then the forced labour camp demanded another 2,000 Yuan for living expenses from the family members, but they refused to pay. Her family let her stay in Zhenzhou for treatment, but later the injury was aggravated and she developed cancer of the spine. The medical expenses in the initial stage were as high as 5,000 Yuan per day. Her family spent almost one million Yuan for her treatment. Yuan Cuirong suffered great distress and damage to both her body and spirit, and she finally died on June 21, 2003.

(1) Yuan is the Chinese currency. 500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.
