According to a World Journal April 4 report, about 100 people from more than 20 NGOs, including the "Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners," gathered in Union Square at noon on April 3, urging the United Nations Human Rights Commission to pass a resolution to condemn the Chinese government's human rights violations. They also appealed for an end to the persecution against Falun Gong.

The report stated that Ms. Fu Yongqing's fiancé, Dr. Charles Lee, has been detained in China for over one year because he is a Falun Gong practitioner. Ms. Fu Yongqing is calling for people's support in helping rescue Charles Lee.

The report also stated that the attending NGOs delivered a public announcement, urging the United Nations Human Rights Commission to pass the resolution proposed by the U.S., which condemns China's human rights violations. The resolution also calls for Beijing to stop persecuting religious organisations in China and asks the UN to pay attention to the human rights condition in China, including the Chinese government's persecution of political dissidents, Falun Gong practitioners, disadvantaged groups and its encroachment on Hong Kong's judicial independence.
