According to news released by the Falun Gong Information Centre on April the 6th, during the 60th Session of the U.N. Human Rights Commission, several dozen non-governmental organisations will gather at the U. N. headquarters in New York on April the 8th to urge the member countries of the U.N. Human Rights Commission to pay attention to China’s human rights practices, including the Chinese government’s persecution of dissidents, Falun Gong practitioners and minority groups. They also will urge the U.N. Human Rights Commission to support the resolution introduced by the U.S. to condemn China’s human rights practices.

It is reported that this gathering was initiated by the organisations such as the Global Committee to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners, the Global Coalition to Bring Jiang to Justice, etc. The representatives from the organisations concerned about the human rights in China, including Liu Qing from the Human Rights in China organisation, John Jaw from the Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, Li Shixiong from the Committee to Investigate the Persecution of Religions in China, Tang Baiqiao, students leader of the June 4th, organisation John Kusumi from the China Support Network, Xu shuiliang from the Chinese Democratic Party coalition, etc., will deliver speeches at the meeting.

He Haiying, Spokesperson of the Global Committee to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners said that China’s persecution of Falun Gong is representative of the human rights abuses in China, because the persecution of Falun Gong amounts to oppression of human freedom of belief, thought, speech and assembly. Falun Gong practitioners are from all walks of life; if their relatives and friends are included, they are representative of the whole Chinese society. With the establishment of increasing numbers of overseas counter-persecution organisations in recent years, Falun Gong practitioners’ endeavors to counter the persecution has been supported by various governments, which indicates the public opinion of the world. He pointed out that the interference with freedom of belief is to deprive and harm a person’s rights to protect his own conscience and dignity, which is the bottom line of human rights. As soon as this persecution is stopped, human rights in China will be ensured.

He Haiying mentioned that “the resolution condemning China’s human rights practices, which is to be submitted to the U.N., has been signed by more than sixty non-governmental organisations, and the number of signatures is still growing. These non-governmental organisations are in the process of establishing the Coalition against China’s Human Rights Abuses”. He also said: “I am pleased to see more and more promising people who are concerned about China’s future join us to arouse conscience, courage, rationality and rule of law. The start of a momentum for justice is the hope of the Chinese people."
