Just as the US was preparing to raise a proposal in the UN condemning the Chinese Government’s abuse of human rights, and to hold a discussion on the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang Zemin’s regime, certain people in the Chinese government who uphold the interests of the regime attempted to defame Falun Gong and promote the regime in the UN. Their goal was to block the proposal condemning the Chinese Government’s persecution of human rights and cover up the persecution of Falun Gong.

A Closed Door Meeting to Deceive Everyone Finds Little Support

According to news from the European Falun Dafa Information Centre, on April 5th a few people allegedly from a Chinese non-governmental organisation and some representing the Chinese Government, attempted to propagate slander in Geneva. They attempted to hold a closed door meeting, which took place at four in the afternoon. They invited representatives from all countries attending the UN Human rights commission, attacked the proposal to be raised by the US and tried to deceive people in the UN.

The delegation from China was afraid to make the meeting public and only invited government members. When a few Falun Gong practitioners in Geneva learnt about it, they immediately gathered outside the meeting's venue and stopped the delegation from spreading lies with righteous thoughts. The meeting was delayed until 4:10 and less than ten countries attended. The meeting was promptly ended after less than an hour.

The conference hall was packed during the discussion of the proposal condemning the Chinese government’s abuse of human rights.

According to reports from Clearwisdom net, in the afternoon of the 2nd of April 2004, the US delegation attending the UN human rights council meeting organised a discussion on the proposal condemning China’s abuse of human rights. Representatives of UN member nations, worldwide human rights organisations, victims of human rights violations and Falun gong practitioners from all over the world attended the meeting. The convention hall was packed.

Ambassador Williamson, representing the US at the UN, made the first speech. He said, “The Chinese Government claims that now is the best period in China’s human rights record. However, we think that China’s human rights have deteriorated. Last year, because the Chinese Government promised to improve her human rights we did not raise a proposal condemning China’s human rights. However, instead of improving, human rights in China have deteriorated. Consequently, we again raise such a proposal this year.”

Miss Dai Zhizhen from Australia, carrying her daughter with tears in her eyes, said, “This is my three year old daughter. When she was nine months old, her father was tortured to death in China for practising Falun Gong. I represent my daughter in thanking you for your proposal. In China, families like me with similar experiences number in the tens of thousands. I believe that all Falun Gong practitioners who suffer the persecution thank all of you for your proposal.” She was in tears after saying this. At this moment, the convention hall was silent as if the air was frozen.

A representative from an NGO said, “In the past, censures of China’s human rights were put aside due to the use of economic benefits and diplomatic moves made by the Chinese government. I hope all countries have the courage and conscience to not let the Chinese government brush this proposal aside.” The audience applauded warmly.

A seminar was held by NGOs controlled by the Chinese government to thwart the discussion on China’s persecution of Falun Gong

According to reports by the Epoch times, in March 2004, during the 60th UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva, a “non-governmental organisation (NGO)” from China named “United Nations Association of China” (UNAC) appeared. However members of the so called NGO behaved strangely and raised questions that drew the attention of participants.

During the seminar on the Chinese government's persecution of Falun gong organised by the International Education Development, two officials sent by the Chinese Government pretending to be members of an NGO called UNAC raised questions and made speeches defaming Falun Gong and promoting the Jiang regime. In response, a representative of the International Education Development said: “Whether Falun Gong is good or not as a form of improving one’s health or what one chooses as a means to improve physical health is a personal matter. It is not a question that this meeting wants to discuss. This purpose of this meeting is to discuss the nature of the persecution suffered by Falun Gong.”
