Some Thoughts about the Upcoming Meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva

The upcoming meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission is getting closer. What has been attracting people’s attention is the fact that the Human Rights Commission has been reorganised. It is said that governments and non-governmental organisations, especially those involved with human rights, will all vigorously carry out activities, hoping to achieve their goals. After all, the annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission has its particular significance.

Ever since the persecution of Falun Gong began in China in 1999, Falun Gong practitioners around the world have gathered in Geneva when the annual meeting is held in March. They conduct a peaceful appeal at the Place des Nations to call upon the United Nations to stop the evil persecution in China. At the same time every year, Jiang’s regime would do all they could to interfere with Falun Gong’s activities. Not only have they bribed government officials to veto the proposition of stopping the persecution against Falun Gong, they have also attempted to hinder the Swiss government from issuing permission to Dafa practitioners to hold a peaceful parade or renting a conference site. On one occasion, they dispatched five hundred people to Geneva to try and impede Falun Gong activities. Practitioners’ passports, money and clothing were stolen continuously. Some of the hired Chinese put on clothing with ‘Falun Gong’ written on them and pretended that they were Dafa practitioners, and then engaged in lawless activities publicly. The sole purpose was to sustain the evil’s persecution and eradicate Falun Gong.

Confronting such an evil regime, practitioners did not yield or retreat. They came to Geneva again and again to show Dafa’s magnificence to the world, and to undo the wickedness and brutality of the persecution. In bad weather they marched to protest against the persecution. On cold nights they sat in vigils in memory of the practitioners who lost their lives. At the Palace Des Nations more than one thousand practitioners carried out a hunger strike to protest against the Hong Kong police illegal prosecution of Falun Gong practitioners under pressure from Jiang Zemin. They told the true story of Falun Gong to innumerable people, hoping to awaken their conscience so that they could be saved. What is reflected in other dimensions by these extraordinary scenes in the human world are heart stirring, soul-thrilling battles between good and evil.

The UN Human Rights Commission has been reorganised this year. Some countries have also dispatched new permanent delegates to the UN. Isn’t it a good opportunity for Dafa disciples to clarify the truth to them? They are faced with the choosing their own future, which in turn represents the choice of the whole nation and the whole country that they represent.

While more and more evil is destroyed, that which remains becomes more and more insane. It seizes every opportunity to damage and interfere with Dafa disciples. Therefore, we need to maintain our righteous thoughts and we should take care not to lower our guard. For instance, there are practitioners saying that we have gone to Geneva every year in the past. Why should we adhere to this form when there are so many things to do? Why don’t we save our time and resources for other areas that are in need of help? Other practitioners feel tired, and don't want to go to Geneva because there are tasks waiting to be done. Some practitioners think their gains would not be significant because no Fahui is arranged in Geneva this year. Some practitioners neglect the meaning of this Dafa activity with a mindset that we should not rely on an everyday people’s organisation. At the very beginning, I thought some of the above reasoning made sense. Evaluating these rationalisations with Fa later on, however, I think that they are incorrect.

Master told us that we should not miss any opportunity to save anyone that can be saved. Now that the annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission is almost upon us, how can we turn a blind eye to the event? How can those who can travel to Geneva decide to cancel the trip with the excuse of personal reasons? The delegations and embassies of the fifty three member states of the UN, as well as numerous international organizations, all gather in Geneva. How many opportunities can be utilised to carry out what Dafa disciples need to do over there!
