Baimalong Female Labour Camp Torture and Kill Practitioners

On August 6, 2000 the Baimalong Female Labour Camp established the Falun Gong Unit. Since then the labour camp has escalated their persecution of Falun Gong. The guards constructed many cages, and inside these cages the guards physically and mentally torture practitioners. They also routinely subject the 1,000-plus practitioners imprisoned in the camp to brainwashing.

The guards ask a practitioner whether she'd continue to practise Falun Gong as soon as the practitioner is taken in. They tell those who say "yes" to this question that they will not leave the camp until they give up the practice. After this, they drag the practitioner away and beat her using electric batons. Then they turn the practitioner over to more than ten former practitioners who have turned against Dafa to continuously torture the practitioner. They force the practitioner to sit in in a room and don't allow her to move any part of her body. Forcing the practitioner to look straight ahead at all times, they show videotapes that defame Falun Gong. The practitioner may also be forced to read booklets and brochures designed to deceive practitioners into giving up the practice. Some practitioners do not see daylight for over 6 months. If a practitioner resists even a little, they beat her up. If a practitioner moves her hand, leg, or mouth, they say she has violated the regulations. As punishment, merit points are deducted and used to calculate extra jail time to be added to her sentence.

Lei Baoliang, 57, is a practitioner from Chenzhou. In a single day the camp took 5,200 points off and added 52 days of jail time to her sentence. In addition to this, they always take off points in the monthly "mental restructuring class." Baimalong Female Labour Camp was the first to specifically target practitioners' minds in their persecution. In their own words, "If you are not afraid of jail, we'll make you crazy, handicapped, and lock you up until you die. We'll see how long you can practise then."

The labour camp even sent practitioners to mental hospitals. Yang Youyuan is a 62-year-old practitioner from Huaihua. She remains very steadfast in practising, even though they hung her up by her handcuffs over 100 times. In early September 2000 the prison guards said that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and sent her to Zhuzhou Mental Hospital. When we saw her 10 days later, she had been tortured and her eyes looked lifeless. It took her a year to recover. In addition to this, the prison guards added a year to her sentence.

It is a common practice for the guards in the labour camp to inject practitioners with a large amount of Thorazine, * as well as other drugs that disrupt the central nervous system. Xia Ting is a 30-year-old practitioner from Suzhou. She worked in Shenzun after she graduated from college. She was arrested while giving out Falun Gong flyers in Hunanxiangtan. She was illegally sentenced to one and a half years in the labour camp. She went on a 42-day hunger strike protesting the persecution. Zhao Guibao and Lu Yongquan (known as the "evil couple" in the camp) injected Xia Ting with a large amount of Thorazine. This caused Xia Ting to suffer from amnesia and lose her ability to walk and maintain her balance. In addition, the guards added a year to her sentence and forced her family to pay for the drugs that were given to her.

Practitioner Hu Yuehui, 42, is from Yiyang City. Because she was steadfast in cultivation and refused to wear the prison uniform, the guards beat her with electric batons, and she lost conscious numerous times. She went on a hunger strike during her final year and a half in the camp. During the hunger strike the guards injected her with a lot of psychotropic drugs, which affected her mental stability greatly. When her family came to visit her, the guards insulted her in front of her family. They said that the drug was albumin and charged her family over 10,000 Yuan [an average urban worker's monthly salary is about 500 Yuan].

Practitioner Liu Caiyun, 34, is from Yongzhou. She went on a hunger strike for 8 months. The guards forcibly injected her with psychotropic drugs on numerous occasions. These drugs caused her legs to go numb, and she was unable to take care of herself for a long time. The guards ordered criminal inmates to beat her. Once, a drug addict by the name of He Xueyan cut Liu Caiyun's forehead and caused to profuse bleeding. They had to send her to the hospital to have the wound stitched closed. In April 2002 the guards hurried to get her family to take her back home. Liu Caiyun tragically died 4 days after returning home.

The guards use bamboo tubes to force-feed practitioners, and invented a metal device to open the jaw. Their force-feeding methods have injured, and in some cases handicapped, a few hundred practitioners. Sometimes it has even killed them. The bamboo tube is about 15 centimeters long and 2.5 centimeters in diameter. It's sharpened at an angle. They have about 7 to 8 people holding the practitioner's hands, legs, and nose. They then use the metallic device to open up the jaw and, suppressing the tongue using the tube, force-feed them gruel. When the gruel arrives in the throat through the tube, it's very difficult to swallow. So they press the tube further down, but this only causes more obstruction in the throat. This also seals the mouth and prevents the practitioner from breathing. It's very easy to suffocate this way. The lungs of practitioners who have survived numerous force-feeding sessions are often damaged.

Practitioner Zuo Shuchun, 42, is from Changsha City. She was killed by this force-feeding technique. When her only family member, an underage son, came to take her body back, the labour camp officials told him that she died from high blood pressure and a heart attack.

Practitioner Cao Jianzhen, 52, is from Yiyang. The guards broke three of her ribs, so she couldn't eat. Zhao Guibao and Lu Yongquan said that she was on a hunger strike. They force-fed her, causing her to bleed internally. She was very weak because of her injuries when her family took her home, and she died soon after.

Practitioner Chen Yulan, 40, is from Changde. In October of 2002 they sent her to the "Fortified Attack Unit." They knocked her teeth loose and her face was swollen for a long period of time. The guards kicked her lower body repeatedly, and she bled for a long time.

The guards always team up with prisoners and those who have turned against Falun Gong to viciously torture the practitioners. They stuff dirty towels, socks and toilet paper into practitioners' mouths every day. Prisoner Liu Xiaoyu is expert in various kinds of torture methods, so they sent her to the "Fortified Attack Unit." These people have brutally tortured many practitioners.

Liu Yuwei was beaten badly, and her whole body became covered with festering sores. Her sores still oozed pus 3 months after the beating.

Practitioner Cao Xianghui, 56, is from Yueyang. She was sent to the "Fortified Attack Unit" three times. She passed out many times from the beatings. During this time she wasn't allowed to sleep.

Chang Lan is an associate professor from Xiangtan. They handcuffed her and made her stand in a tub of water. They made her stand still without closing her eyes for 8 days and nights. After this, her feet were festering. Her father once taught Zhao Guibao and Lu Yongquan, (who oversaw torture methods in the camp), and she had at one time been their classmate.

He Yingxin is a professor from Hunan Agricultural University. They hung her by her handcuffs for 40 days. Her flesh was torn away and bones were exposed and damaged.

Chen Ouxiang was handcuffed with hands behind the back for many days and nights. They made her watch videos that defame Falun Gong. If she moved even a bit they beat her. On November 26, 2002 she was thrown to the floor and passed out. The prisoners strangled her from behind, and she stopped breathing. The whole labour camp was on high alert after this incident and tried to prevent any information from leaking out (the guards on duty were: Zheng Xia and Ding Cailan, 86-1387333526 (C).

The guards withheld practitioners' salaries and other fees for a prolonged period of time, and took the money for themselves (in the labour camp, prisoners are paid about 7 to 9 Yuan per month). They always move the practitioners around. Whenever they move a practitioner, that practitioner will lose their pay for months. Some haven't been paid for over a year. The police ransacked many of the practitioner's houses, so they no longer have any savings. Many can't even buy toilet paper. Those who went on hunger strikes were dragged out for injections, and the guards charged up to tens of thousands Yuan for the drugs. Ninety-five percent of the time, when a practitioner was released, the guards would charge the family a few thousand Yuan for "medicine."

Baimalong Female Labour Camp has been viciously torturing practitioners, but they call their action "treating the practitioners like a gentle spring rain." They make up many lies to fool the public. The practitioners, even after much torture, continue to practise, and this frightens those who oppose Falun Dafa. As of this writing, the Baimalong Female Labor Camp is busy trying to conceal evidence of their crimes. But how can this kind of evil be concealed?

Hunan Zhuzhou Baimalong Labour Camp list of those involved in the persecution:

Huang Yongliang, male, 53, is the director of Baimalong Labour Camp and the main perpetrator of the torture of practitioners. 86-1390843906 (M)

Zhao Guibao, male, 38, is the deputy director of the labour camp. 86-13607332316 (M)

Lu Yongquan, female, 36, is the wife of Zhao Guibao. She's the health section chief. She and her husband came to power by persecuting practitioners. They were originally doctors in the camp. Now they are in charge of torture methods, force-feeding, injecting psychotropic drugs, etc. They are in charge of most of the bloody persecutions in the camp.

Yi Jine, female, 46, is the political commissar of the labour camp, and deputy party committee secretary. 86-13873335222 (M)

Ding Cailan, female, 36, was originally a team leader at the forced labour camp. She was later transferred to a brainwashing class and received recognition for her role in the persecution. 86-13873335268 (M)

Tan Xiangqian, male, 38, is Baimalong Labour Camp's special force unit leader. For 4 years he helped the leaders in Baimalong Labour Camp torture practitioners. He has killed 5 practitioners, and wounded countless others.

* The psychotropic drug Thorazine (also known as Aminazin, Chlorpromazine, Largactil, Thorazine or Wintermin) is a strong tranquilizer that used in the treatment of psychiatric patients. Thorazine in particular can have powerful side effects, such as tardive dyskinesia (a serious, irreversible neurological disorder), tardive dementia (a global deterioration of her mind and mental faculties caused by the drugs), general dulling of awareness, emotional numbing, and cognitive dysfunction. Symptoms of tardive dyskinesia involve uncontrollable movement of various body parts, including the body trunk, legs, arms, fingers, mouth, lips, or tongue.

According to Amnesty International's medical advice, these drugs are not in themselves sinister. There are specific disorders for which they are prescribed, but they should be administered by qualified doctors, and their use monitored. In the light of cases of torture and ill-treatment of Falun Gong practitioners, and in the absence of evidence that they suffer from any psychiatric disorder, it is evident that the administration of such drugs are a punitive measure. In other words, Falun Gong practitioners have been inappropriately administered psychotropic drugs in order to punish them for their spiritual belief in Falun Gong.
