UK: Discussing Anxiety

There are some people who become anxious easily. For instance, a man who has to catch a train in the morning. Even though he uses an alarm clock he still does not sleep easily. There are other cases: A person who cannot sleep because of an exam the next day. A person who speaks without coherence and with a trembling voice in front of an audience. When busy, he rushes his work and always forgets something.

I often become anxious, and in the past I regarded it as weakness of character. I paid it little attention until I discovered my voice trembling over the phone while handling tough Dafa work. At the beginning, I was scared of this, yet still trembled even though other people agreed with my comments. I felt peculiar. Why did I shudder without fear? Why was my main consciousness not able to control myself? I know that I can take the second train if I miss the first one, but still do not fall asleep. The ordinary people call it “Neurasthenia", excessive sensitivity, but the community of cultivators does not interpret it in this way.

We know that, “ Matter and mind are one thing." Such tension exposes certain matter inside our bodies, which give rise to tense emotion. We all know enlightened beings should not be worried, including those who have reached the state of Arhat. Whatever happens his mind remains still and he will always smile. From this perspective, the emotion of anxiety is an attachment that has to be eliminated.

On the issue of the “Celestial Eye” our Master taught us that something neither black nor white will emerge. The more we pursue, the more this substance comes out, forming a large field to cover up our bodies. Anxiety is one kind of attachment. If ignored, it will turn into fear. Two Chinese words display absent-mindedness: “hurry" and “forgetfulness". These two words indicate that we are not conscious of what we are doing. Our Master asks us to keep a merciful and peaceful mentality at all times, thus we have time to buffer and do things well. If we fail to eliminate the attachment of anxiety, we are hardly likely to achieve this goal.

In accordance with this viewpoint, we are supposed to eradicate this attachment and remind ourselves not to become anxious. Master writes in “Zhuan Falun” - “I will mainly make a few requirements. I hope all of you will treat yourselves as practitioners in future cultivation practice and truly continue your cultivation practice." I constantly remind myself of being a Dafa practitioner with strong righteous thoughts to weed out attachments. When eliminating this kind of attachment, we are likely to treat everything without fear and afterwards can view things from the perspective of an enlightened person.
