Tian Shuzhen, a forty-year-old woman working at a fabric factory in Wudi County, Shandong Province, was illegally arrested and sentenced to 4 years in prison this year. She was arrested for clarifying the truth to the public. At the same time, another female practitioner named Wu Bouzhi also received the same sentence. Currently both women are being held at the female prison in Shandong.

On a business trip, Tian Shuzhen fell over a tractor and suffered serious injuries. She took a lot of medications and treatments, but nothing solved the problem. In the year 1999, she was introduced to Falun Gong. Ever since then, she stopped all her medications and treatments. In 2001, she was transferred to the Fabric Factory. There, she practised to be good person, following the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, and ever since, her attitude towards work changed for the better. She worked hard, got along with co-workers, and her work ethic was high. Having experienced the goodness of Dafa herself, she went out to clarify the truth to the public and expose the lies the state-run media has told. On January 20, 2003, she was taken captive by "610 Office" personnel. During her captivity, she was forbidden to see her family. Tian Shuzhen also suffered physical torture from the police. Since she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was sentenced to 4 years in prison in August. Her relatives and friends weren't informed, and there was no audience at the trial. Only the presiding judge, two other judges, and the two practitioners (Wu Baozhi was sentenced the same day) were present that day. Wu Baozhi appealed the verdict, but her request was turned down. On September 23, both women were sent to the female prison in Shandong.

Falun Gong has been widely spread for over 10 years now. Practitioners are kind hearted, and many people, after practising Falun Gong, had major health improvements. But in China today everything is under Jiang Zemin's control and he doesn't have to abide by any laws. He uses lies to deceive the people and prosecute innocent people, whose only desire is to believe in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. Throughout the past years, all over China, Falun Gong practitioners have been brutally persecuted. Here in Shandong, brainwashing takes place to force the practitioners to give up Falun Gong. Even saying, "Falun Dafa is a righteous practice" will get you sent to jail, and fined 2000-5000 Yuan [the average monthly income for an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan]. Also, you would be forced to sign a "guarantee" to stop practising. If you refuse to sign the guarantee, you could be detained and subjected to brutal torture, such as deprivation of sleep for days. The sole purpose of the torture is to try to get practitioners to give up their belief in Dafa. If it were around a national holiday, the police would go to practitioners' homes to harass them and their families. This is a violation of Falun Gong practitioner's human rights by Jiang Zemin, who claims to "manage the country with virtue."

We urgently call on the international community to investigate and defend the Falun Gong practitioners' freedom of belief, and bring Jiang to justice in the court of morality and conscience.
