Ms. Jiang Lanying is a 38-year-old Dafa practitioner in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. In the evening of September 16, 1999 when she was sharing experiences with fellow practitioners in a practitioner's home in Building #62 of the Qingshan Lake subdivision in Nanchang City, she was abducted by persons from the Donghu District Police Department of Nanchang City. She was then detained in the 3rd Detention Centre for 16 days before she was released.

In November of 1999, Ms. Jiang Lanying went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. She was abducted and taken back to Nanchang City by Qingshan street police station personnel and was detained in the 3rd Detention Centre. Because she persistently practised Falun Gong in the detention centre, Liu Xiuying, a policewoman who was sentenced and detained in the same detention centre for selling drugs, instigated Shu Fei, a drug addict and thief, and other criminal offenders to brutally beat her. They poured icy cold water and urine on her during the cold of winter. The detention centre's political commissar Deng even cuffed the hands and feet of eight practitioners and then chained them together, simply because they practised Falun Gong together. If one had to go to bathroom, the other seven would have to go with her. Even their belts had to be loosened by those drug addicts for going to the bathroom. They could not sleep at all. Eight of them sat on the concrete floor in the cold winter for two days and nights. No matter how the thugs tortured Jiang Lanying, she dealt with it calmly.

Later, Jiang Lanying was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labour and was sent to the Jiangxi Province Women's Labour Camp in January of 2000. Because she went on a hunger strike protesting against the persecution in the camp, she was tied to her bed for a long period of time. She could not move her hands and feet, nor could she freely use the bathroom. She was force-fed. The labour camp persecutors locked her and two other people in a dark confinement cell of less than 55 square feet for a long period of time. They had to eat and relieve themselves in this cell. Because she refused to be "reformed," she was detained in the labour camp for two years, even though she was sentenced to only one year. She was later forced to take part in brainwashing sessions in a centre run by the armed police. To protest against the persecution, Jiang Lanying kept on her hunger strike until she was finally released.

Later on, at about 1:00 a.m. on July 12, 2002, they took her away again. Policeman Zhou Xiangfeng and political head Li from the Qingshan Police Station dragged Jiang Lanying out of her home and forced her into a police vehicle. They abducted her to Donghu District Police Department. Zhou Xiangfeng beat her arms and legs with a metal rod. To prevent Jiang Lanying from practising the Falun Gong exercises, political head Li put a stool on her legs and they then sat on the stool. They took turns to torture her for two days and nights. Later they sent her to a detention centre and her family was not even allowed to visit her. By the end of February 2003, Jiangxi Province Women's Prison authorities suddenly notified her mother to visit her in the Changzheng Hospital, a labour camp hospital. Her mother then learned that she had been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and that she had been on a hunger strike to protest the illegal sentence.

The prison police had sent her to the labour camp hospital for force-feeding. Later they used the SARS outbreak as an excuse to refuse visits from her family. Her mother was not allowed to visit her until July 25. Jiang Lanying is now merely skin and bones. She is 1.65 metres (5 feet 5 inches) tall, but her weight is less than 40 Kilogrammes (88 lbs). Her mother implored the authorities to send her home for treatment. The hospital official said, "It is the decision from above that we can not release her. If she refuses to eat this time she can only die here." Jiang Lanying's life is in danger.
