On March 20, 2003, Dafa practitioners Ms. Li Shuqin and Mr. Zhang Hongyou were abducted by police officers from the Changjiu Street Police Station in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Ms. Li Shuqin was later tortured to death at Changchun's No. 3 Detention Centre.

Mr. Zhang Hongyou, 78, also passed away not long after he was released due to constant harassment from the police.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Shuqin, 54, from Changchun City was arrested by police when she paid a visit to Mr. Li Hongyou' home. During her subsequent detention, she refused to cooperate with the police and went on a hunger strike. It is said that she suffered repeated brutal torture at Changchun's No.3 Detention Centre. Her hands and feet were cuffed together for long periods of time. Each time when being interrogated she was tortured until she was on the verge of death. The detention centre police did nothing to treat her wounds. Moreover, they savagely force-fed her with raw corn meal, hot pepper powder and mustard powder mixed with water. Multiple sources have verified that Li Shuqin was tortured so severely it led to her death.

Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhang Hongyou was a retired official. On March 20, 2003 policemen from the Changjiu Street Police Station broke into and searched his home, and took him and the other practitioner Ms. Li Shuqin to the police station by force. Because of his age and his fragile health he was released the next day. However, the police kept harassing him and closely monitored all his movements. Not long after, Mr. Zhang Hongyou passed away.
