Irish Falun Dafa practitioners held a press conference to tell people about the global lawsuit against Jiang Zemin, in front of the Dublin Chinese Embassy in Dublin. Mr. Gerald O’Connor, from the Irish Falun Dafa Association, made a speech pointing out that Jiang Zemin has constantly abused his power over the past four years in trying to eradicate Falun Gong, a meditation practice based on Truthfulness, Kindness, Tolerance. Jiang has employed torture, slaughter, rape and other criminal activities in his campaign of state terrorism. Therefore, he has to take full responsibility for the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. Not only does he illegally persecute innocent Falun Gong practitioners, but Jiang Zemin has also cheated all of the Chinese citizens with deceit and lies. The Irish Falun Gong practitioners continue to call on the Irish people and government to pay attention to the human rights violations committed by this Chinese dictator. The practitioners also hope that the Irish media, government and people can stand up for the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners in China and support the global lawsuit against Jiang Zemin.

During the press conference, Zhao Ming, a Postgraduate student in the Department of Computer Science of Dublin’s Trinity College, described how he was illegally detained, imprisoned and brutally tortured for 20 months in Chinese labour camps simply because he returned to China to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong. The guards in the labour camps instigated the inmates to beat up Zhao Ming and force feed him when he went on a hunger strike. Because Ming refused to renounce his belief in Falun Dafa, labour camp policemen used 6 electrical batons to apply electrical shocks simultaneously to the sensitive parts of his body, leading to a loss of feeling in both his legs. After persistent requests and appeals from the Irish people and government, Zhao Ming was finally released in March 2000. He subsequently returned to Ireland to resume his studies.

Another Irish Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Dai Dongxue, applied for a passport renewal and was turned down by the Chinese Embassy. Dai’s two elder sisters and her younger brother were unlawfully arrested several times because they practise Falun Gong. Up to today, Dai’s eldest sister is still imprisoned but her actual whereabouts are unknown. Dai’s family has been torn apart by this persecution. Even the information about her elderly mother’s death last year was blocked by the Chinese regime. Since the Chinese Embassy refused to renew her passport, Ms. Dai missed the last opportunity to see her mother before she died.
