Dear all,

We would like to use the time before June 26th, the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, to let you know (or if you already know, to remind you), about the striking fact that China has been implementing torture against Christians, dissidents, and Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) practitioners.

Inhumane torture, including forced psychiatric treatment, has already lead to 727 deaths of those who practise the peaceful teaching called Falun Gong, which has nothing to do with religion or politics, and which is aimed solely at raising morality and improving physical health.

The world has not ignored the fact that Chinese authorities use torture methods against those who are different from them. We will give the following examples:

On May 24th 2003, during the annual meeting of the APA (American Psychiatric Association) the speech of Mr. Robin J. Munro regarding the abuse of psychiatry by Jiang Zemin’s regime with the purpose of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and dissidents, has attracted a lot of attention from psychiatrists all over the world who were present at this meeting.

In a Resolution from July 17th 2001, the International Association of Organizations for Human Rights (IAOHRA) noted that the government of the People’s Republic of China “…began a beastly and relentless persecution of millions of Falun Gong practitioners, which has been going on up to the present time…”, and criticized this especially brutal treatment, calling on the Chinese government “…to immediately bring the murders to an end, to stop the torture that has been used against Falun Gong practitioners….”

On May 28th of this year, Amnesty International conducted a press-conference in Washington, in order to call attention to their report on human rights for the year 2003. In the report, they have pointed out the worsening situation in China in regards to the violation of human rights. Mr. T. Kumar, the director of Amnesty International in Asia and the Pacific regions, pointed out that AI has recently obtained information about the lawsuit against Jiang Zemin that has been filed in Chicago, accusing him of genocide, and that the organization will support the lawsuit fully.

The International press also has paid attention to the violation of human rights, and the infringement of the most basic freedoms and rights in China, especially regarding the facts surrounding the persecution of the Falun Gong movement. It would be good if the Russian media spoke out on this matter.
