On Wednesday 3rd October 2001 at 7.20pm, the France 3 television channel broadcasted a programme on the Falun Gong SOS Walk from Paris to Brussels to rescue the practitioners in China.

The programme mentioned that Falun Gong was based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It also referred to the torture, arrests and the widespread means used against Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Mr Henri Pierre Debord, one of the representatives of the Interministerial Mission for the Struggle against Sects, was quoted in the programme as saying:

“Falun Gong can not be considered a sect. The visible part of this movement are the exercises which are done collectively [it is not necessary to exercise in groups- the exercises can be done individually- editor] and bring together, for the majority of the time, Eastern people joined by some Europeans. [..] What is appropriate to say is that there has been no case of negative action or deceptive behaviour from the School [Falun Gong] in our country.”
