Some Thoughts to Share with the People of China: Accepting the Truth is Not Betraying Your Country

Jiang’s regime in China has deceived the Chinese people about the truth of Falun Gong and has also tried to spread its poisonous lies throughout the world. The recent SARS situation has shown all too clearly the capacity of the regime to lie at will, to cover up the truth both internally and externally, thus risking countless lives of both the people of China and those around the world.

I think that this is very hard to come to terms with; to accept that the leaders of your country have lied to you in this way must be extremely hard to take. Perhaps it even feels like a kind of betrayal or a form of disrespect when you see people revealing their lies, or when you hear of the truth. This then reacts very negatively in your mind and so it is very hard to face because of this. I think loyalty and respect are commendable values, but I don’t think that one needs to suffer in this way for them and I don’t see how loyalty, respect and the love for one’s country can be in conflict with accepting the truth. I think we often forget the deep distinction between the regime governing the country and the country itself, and don’t realise that the instinct to defend the regime which people often have really comes from a more fundamental loyalty, respect and love for one’s country.

The leaders of a country are not the country in and of itself – they are not it’s history, culture or people. They are just given the task by history to take care of certain practical affairs of the nation and to serve the country well in this aspect. They are servants of the country, not masters. If they don’t fulfil this duty, then it is they who are in the wrong, and they themselves who have let the country and it’s people down. I really feel ashamed of my little knowledge of Chinese culture, but from the little I have learned from my Chinese friends, through practising Falun Gong and through my studies of Chinese Medicine, I have found that it is very precious and rich; something far beyond what can be represented by a few political leaders with their own strong political intentions. I think that in accepting the truth, you are not betraying your country. In fact I believe that it is just the opposite.

Through practising Falun Gong I have gained a deeper insight into the nature of traditional Chinese culture. When practitioners talk to me of traditional Chinese culture and history, I see in them a deep respect for their own cultural traditions and a deep love of China which I know has been strengthened through their practise of Falun Gong. Through them, and through Dafa, I have developed a heart-felt affinity with China, it’s culture and it’s people.

I feel very sad to think of how Jiang’s regime has cynically manipulated your loyalty and love of your wonderful country to bind you unknowingly in its web of lies and propaganda. Your defence towards your country comes from deep down within and is admirable, but I hope that you do not mistake loyalty to your country with blind faith in the regime that is destroying it. Your faith in the regime has been cynically betrayed. But your faith in the Chinese people and nation has not been betrayed; it has been reborn in the courage and forbearance of Falun Gong practitioners, as they have seen through the lies and upheld the truth despite terrible persecution, enduring the hatred of the nation stirred up by the vicious propaganda.

I honestly believe that if it were not for the deep moral integrity, inner strength and determination of these people, the true essence of China would have been swallowed up in the lies and deceit of the Jiang regime, and the betrayal of people’s blind faith in the regime would have been known only when it was too late.
