Zhu Baolian is a female Dafa practitioner aged 36. The police arrested her on December 15 2002 when she was out with a friend. Her family members were not told about her arrest or trial and no visits were allowed, even after her family knew where she was detained. She was sentenced to 4 years in jail for distributing Falun Gong materials and is now being detained in Beijing’s Woman’s Prison.
Yongjie Zhu, is the 29-year-old fiancée of Dr. Weiguo Xie from Cambridge. She has been a Falun Gong practitioner since 1995. Ms. Zhu used to be a staff member of the Tsinghua Tongfang Group in Beijing but lost her job on October 29th 2002 because of her belief in Falun Gong, later she was forced to become homeless due to pressure from the police. After her arrest on 4th November 2002 in Beijing, the Bureau of State Security in China interrogated her parents about Weiguo.
Zheng Xujun is a 33 year old male PhD student at the China Electric Power Research Institute before his arrest. Due to his excellent performance in his PhD study he was sent to the University of Liverpool as a visiting scholar for a joint research project. There he ran a free weekly Falun Gong exercise class. After he returned to China in July 1999, he was placed under surveillance and forced to stop his studies and attend a brainwashing class. Later he was illegally arrested in September 2001 and was sentenced two years in the notorious Beijing Tuanhe Labour Camp. His wife, Sunan, was sentenced to three years jail for distributing Falun Gong materials in 2001 and is currently detained in Sichuan 1st Woman’s Prison.
