Crippling Tortures in the Changchun No. 3 Detention Centre Render Practitioners Unable To Stand For Several Days

In late November and early December 2002, the Shuangyang No. 3 Detention Centre in Changchun City, Jilin Province persecuted practitioners under the guise of so-called "civilized jailing." A demerit system was set up to try and force practitioners to do things they felt they shouldn't do. For instance, anyone who refused to wear a prison uniform would be given one demerit that would result in punishment. In the past, Dafa practitioners in the Changchun No. 3 detention centre had refused to wear the prison uniforms because they are innocent and have broken no laws. After being given a "demerit" for breaking the rules, the practitioners were dragged out of their cells by other prisoners under orders from the guards and pressed down to the floor and forcibly made to put on the prison uniforms. They were then shackled in chains as "punishment" afterwards. The most brutal type of shackling was called "running in chains," in which practitioners' wrists are handcuffed to a ring of shackles in a manner that forced them to bend at the waist in an extremely awkward and uncomfortable position. Once shackled, the practitioners could not lie down, go to the toilet, or eat. Such a form of punishment seriously damages a person's vertebra if held for a long period of time, rendering them crippled for several days afterward.

This type of torture was used against practitioner Liu Xiu'e and Zhang Liping and did not stop until just two days before they were put on trial. Once in the courtroom, their hands, feet, and faces were extremely swollen, and they couldn't stand up straight or walk without support. The policemen in the detention centre roared angrily that they would drag out and torture any practitioners who dared to speak out against the shackling, but the practitioners' righteous voices could still be heard echoing throughout the corridor despite these threats. Upon seeing the terror of the persecution, some criminals with heart disease became so frightened that they had heart attacks and had to receive emergency treatment. Doctors were running around everywhere in the corridor. Some of the criminals said angrily: "How brutal! Only these policemen could think of such cruel ways to torture these innocent Falun Gong practitioners."

One of the young female officers named Chen Xue spared no effort in persecuting Dafa practitioners with the "running in chains" torture method. Many were put under her charge in rooms 301 and 302 as a result.

We sincerely warn officer Chen Xue to immediately stop torturing Dafa practitioners. Good is rewarded with good and evil is met with evil. Don't destroy your own future!
