A 71-year-old woman from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province wasn’t released on medical parole until she fell into a coma. Ms. Yang Ruiqin was never able to recover from her torture-induced health problems. She died five months later.

Ms. Yang was sentenced to three years in April 2014 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Her latest imprisonment followed two forced labour terms in the past.

The pharmaceutical company retiree was subjected to various forms of physical torture and psychological manipulation in Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison. Her health quickly declined, and she had to be rushed to the hospital for resuscitation on several occasions.

She lost consciousness on December 31st of last year. Only then did the prison inform her family to pick her up. Her loved ones were saddened to see her reduced to just skin and bones.

She remained hospitalized during her final days and passed away on May 24th.
