Falun Gong practitioner Luo Jingshan is appealing his verdict after he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on January 28th, 2016.
Three residential committee members showed up at Mr. Luo's home on August 11th, 2015. They discovered that Mr. Luo was browsing Minghui.org, a Falun Gong website that reports on the persecution of the spiritual discipline by the Chinese communist regime.
The members reported Mr. Luo, whose home was raided by officers from the Yunshan Farm Police Department. Officers seized a laptop computer, a printer, and Falun Gong books and informational materials.
Mr. Luo was taken to a detention centre, and his arrest was approved on September 18th, 2015.
At his trial on January 14th, 2016, Mr. Luo's lawyer pled not guilty on his behalf, and argued that the Chinese constitution guarantees freedom of belief.
Throughout his lawyer's argument, the judge and court officers listened quietly. The trial lasted two hours.
Mr. Luo was sentenced to two and half years in prison by the Mudanjiang Nongken Court of Heilongjiang Province on January 28th, 2016. He has appealed the sentence to a higher court.
