Ms. Xiao Aixiu died just 10 days after her release from a local detention centre. The self-employed woman from Wuhan, Hubei Province, had hallucinations, and her skin was a strange colour during her final days. Her family suspected that she was poisoned while she was being detained.

Ms. Xiao was arrested on September 28th, 2014, for talking to people about how the Chinese Communist Party is wrong to persecute Falun Gong, a practice that had transformed her life. She used to have to wear winter coats in the summer, but soon regained her health after she began to practise Falun Gong in 2012.

Her healthy and happy days, however, came to a halt following her arrest in 2014. She was brutally beaten while held at Wuhan First Detention Centre, and her family also reported that the money they deposited for her was never given to her to use.

The detention centre informed Ms. Xiao's family in July this year that she was near death and would be released soon. She returned home on July 21st, only to die on July 31st.
