We found that 746 (11%) experienced torture in brainwashing centres, and 367 deaths took place in the brainwashing centres.

The report lists the top 15 centres that involved torture deaths. Below, we offer detailed information on the top three.

1. Xinjin Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu Sichuan

The Xinjin Brainwashing Centre, officially called “Chengdu Law Education Centre,” is located in Caiwan Village, Huaqiao Town, Xinjin County, Chengdu, Sichuan province. It was co-founded by the Chengdu City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Sichuan Province 610 Office.

On May 19th, 2003, the first article about this centre was published on the Minghui website. It reported the detention of Guo Yufang, a Falun Gong practitioner and local elementary school teacher from Zitong Town, Chongzhou City.

Many more reports on this centre have been published on Minghui since—a total of 1065 up to February 27th, 2014.

The first death case in this centre—the torture death of Liu Shengle from Chengdu—was reported on June 20th, 2003. To date, seven Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre: Zhou Suqiong (female, 70), Li Xianwen (male, 54), Deng Shufen (female, 70), Li Xiaowen (female, 67), Liu Shengle (female 53), Xie Deqing (male, 69), and Wang Mingrong (female, 53).

Frequent forced injection of nerve-damaging drugs in this centre have caused many practitioners to suffer mental collapse.

On February 16th, 2004, the Minghui website reported the mental collapse of Zhu Xia, a female practitioner jailed in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre.

In 2005, Tan Shaolan, a female practitioner imprisoned in this centre, suffered a mental collapse due to forced injection of drugs.

On July 19th, 2011, the Minghui website reported that 70-year old Li Guanyuan, a female practitioner from Xinjin County, was poisoned in this centre.

There is evidence showing that the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre has also been involved in forced organ harvesting from practitioners.

On August 17th, 2012, an article published on Minghui reported that the centre examined jailed practitioners' blood. When questioned by a practitioner, a doctor claimed: “You will be lucky if your organ matches what we want.”

The Xinjin Brainwashing Centre has expanded.

On July 18th, 2011, an article on the Minghui website entitled, “ Persecution at the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu ” offered detailed information about this centre. An earthquake in May 2008 damaged the six-story building. After that, the municipal government combined the dental school next door with the original brainwashing centre. Since the renovation, both are being used for brainwashing.

2. Maoming Brainwashing Centre in Maoming City, Guangdong Province

Maoming Brainwashing Centre is officially called the “Maoming City Law Education School.” It is located next to the Maoming Seventh Elementary School and Guanshan Farmer's Market. Not many people know that it is a black prison.

The facility is located in a 5-floor building. The gate is always closed. Practitioners are held on the second, third and fourth floors. There are five rooms on each floor, with windows blocked by boards. A solitary cell is set up on the fifth floor. Many handcuffs, police batons, and other torture tools are hidden in the building.

Up to February 27th, 2014, Minghui website has published 206 reports on this centre—the first on December 14th, 2001.

3. Yangyuan Brainwashing Centre in Wuhan, Hubei province

The Yangyuan Brainwashing Centre was developed from the Qingling Brainwashing Centre in Wuchang District, Wuhan City. Its original function was to monitor Falun Gong practitioners and prevent them from appealing. Later, it became a place to imprison practitioners.

In June, 2001, the Qingling Brainwashing Centre moved to Yangyuan in the Wuchang District, and was upgraded to the Yangyuan Brainwashing Centre, which covered practitioners from a larger area.

In 2002, the Wuhan City 610 Office and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee moved their offices to this centre, upgrading the centre to city level from district level. In May, 2002, a group of police from the Hewan Labour Camp joined the brainwashing centre.

The first report on this centre, published on August 9th, 2001 on the Minghui website, was about the arrest and detention of Wang Qingping (female) and Guo Changxin (male), a husband and wife from Dadongmen, Wuchang District, on August 5.

The first death took place on April 6th, 2001. Peng Min (male, 27) from Wuhan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and jailed in the Qingling Brainwashing Centre, where he was beaten to death.

Many practitioners who completed their sentences in labour camps but refused to renounce Falun Gong were sent to the Yangyuan Centre directly after they were released from the labour camps.

According to an article on the Minghui website in November 2008, Feng Zhen from Wuhan, who had been imprisoned for seven years, was sent to the Yangyuan Centre on the same day he was released.

On March 20th, 2012, Yu Ganghai completed his sentence after being imprisoned for nine years in the Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang, Hubei province. However, he was not released. On March 21st, he was sent to the Yangyuan Centre by the local 610 Office. His family, not being informed where he was sent, looked for him in all the brainwashing centres nearby, and finally found him in Yangyuan.
