Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Mo Huiping and Ms. Luo Xinping from Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region were arrested in Wuzhong City and detained for two weeks.

Jin Yufeng, director of the Minsheng Police Station in Litong District, arrested Ms. Mo and Ms. Luo on February 26th, and detained them for fourteen days. On March 2nd, when Ms. Mo and Luo were originally scheduled for release, their families went to Wuzhong City Custody to pick them up and take them home. When they arrived they were told the women had been transferred to Wuzhong Detention Centre. They immediately went to the detention centre but were told to check with the Domestic Security Division.

Zhao Bin, deputy secretary of the Litong District Police Department Precinct, and Ma Minglang, commander of the Domestic Security Division, insisted on charging Ms. Mo and Ms. Luo, and transferred them to the detention centre.

Several police from the Domestic Security Division in Jinfeng District, Yinchuan City reportedly ransacked Ms. Mo and Ms. Luo's homes after their arrest on February 26th.

Ms. Mo Huiping, 37, had previously been arrested after being ambushed by police in 2001. She was subsequently sentenced to three years in a forced labour camp. In 2004, she was once again sentenced to another three and a half years in prison. Her sister and brother-in-law were also both persecuted for practising Falun Gong.

Ms. Luo Xinping, who is retired, sustained serious injuries (including fractures of her spine) from a fall while escaping a pursuit by police. She continued to practise Falun Gong, and gradually recovered from her injuries. Xixia Precinct of the Yinchuan City Police Department arrested her in 2006. She was sentenced to one year of forced labour, working more than ten hours per day as a slave, which caused a relapse of her injuries. Her husband Wang Xiangchen was dismissed from his job, and also sentenced to one year of forced labour, for practising Falun Gong.

Several cases of persecution have recently taken place in Wuzhong City. For example, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ma Xiongde was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, and his wife Zheng Fengying to seven years in prison.

We urge anyone who has participated in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, whether in the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the Public Security organizations, or the Procuratorate and Court in Wuzhong City, to immediately release Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zheng Fengying, Mr. Ma Xiongde, Ms. Mo Huiping, and Ms. Luo Xinping. These practitioners should also be compensated for all of their losses, including emotional distress, loss of wages, and loss of personal property. We also urge those involved to publish statements in the local media to apologize to the practitioners, restore the practitioners' reputations, and take the opportunity to ask for leniency in future trials for justice.
