Ms. Huang Yuanran, a Falun Gong practitioner who taught at Nanning International Teacher's College in Guangxi, suffered years of persecution because she upheld her belief. She had her resident registration forcibly cancelled by her employer and was subjected to arrest and forced labour. She had been homeless since 2001 due to the persecution. Ms. Huang died on December 17th, 2012 in Guangzhou after an October 30th arrest attempt in Lingshan County, Guangxi. Before her death, agents from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and personnel from the Domestic Security Division were constantly monitoring her, even at the hospital where she stayed before she died.

Ms. Huang Yuanran from Nanning City, about 40 years old, was an art teacher at Nanning International Teacher's College. She was frail and had a serious congenital heart problem, so she could not participate in intense physical activities. She could not take physical education classes with other kids at school, and she had suffered multiple heart attacks. She was in critical condition on three occasions. After Ms. Huang started practising Falun Gong in 1996, her heart disease disappeared without medication. Ms. Huang has since strictly followed Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Because of her good character, her colleagues and students alike all enjoyed her presence.

Dismissed by Her Employer, Resident Registration Cancelled

In July 1999 the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution against Falun Gong and mobilised the entire state-controlled media to comprehensively slander and smear the practice. Ms. Huang persisted in practising Falun Gong despite the persecution. As a person who had benefited from Falun Gong, she explained the truth with her fellow practitioners in order to help people not be deceived by the CCP, nor hold hatred against Falun Gong. She went to Beijing to appeal for justice and clarify the facts in October 1999.

The Education Bureau of Guangxi later issued an official document dismissing Huang Yuanran from her job, and her employer handed her over to the local police. In order to take back Ms. Huang's apartment assigned by the college, the college leadership cut off the electricity to her apartment and sealed off the electric meter. When Ms. Huang moved out of her apartment, the leaders didn't allow her residential registration to stay at the college, so they took more than 2,000 yuan1 from her as collateral to force her to move her residential registration. They also notified the local police, who took Ms. Huang away from campus in a police vehicle.

Subjected to Forced Labour, Forced to Become Homeless

Ms. Huang Yuanran was sentenced to two years of forced labour in the later half of 2000. During that period, she was subjected to daily brainwashing sessions by collaborators. Despite the persecution she suffered, Ms. Huang still persisted in cultivation, and the persecutors had no other alternative but to release her ahead of time in 2001. After her release, due to the CCP's ongoing persecution and threats of further arrest, Ms. Huang had to become homeless.

After nearly ten years of being homeless, in order to try to live a normal life, Ms. Huang went to the Nanning Police Department to obtain an ID card in 2010. At that time the clerk could not find her name on the police roster on the Internet, as she had become an undocumented person. Later on, after major efforts by her family, Ms. Huang finally obtained an official ID and could once again lead a normal life.

During the period that Ms. Huang was in a labour camp and homeless, CCP personnel harassed her family members, causing huge trouble for them. Ms. Huang's parents were both in their eighties and their health deteriorated rapidly under this kind of pressure. In order to avoid the constant harassment from the authorities, they moved from Nanning City to Guangzhou City. In 2010, Ms. Huang could finally enjoy a peaceful Chinese New Year's Day with her parents.

Ms. Huang's eldest brother had late stage lung cancer in 2009, which cost several hundred thousand yuan for treatment. By April 2012 his cancer had spread, and his family members were devastated. Ms. Huang and her husband voluntarily took care of her eldest brother. Because the medical treatment was so expensive, his family could no longer afford it, and his wife intended to give up the treatment. Ms. Huang voluntarily proposed to sell the house that her parents left to her in order to raise money for his treatment. After several months of caring for her brother, Ms. Huang's friends and relatives gradually came to understand and admire Falun Gong practitioners. Her eldest brother also started to practise Falun Gong and his health improved. The doctors allowed him to leave the hospital and rest at home.

This peaceful period didn't last long. In August 2012, under the excuse of security leading up to the CCP 18th Party Congress, the authorities attempted to persecute those whom they regarded as “key persons.” The Nanning Police Department and Ms. Huang's former employer found out through multiple channels the whereabouts of Ms. Huang's parents and her elder brother, and they tapped their phone lines in order to initiate a new round of persecution against Ms. Huang. She and her husband had to become homeless once again to avoid arrest.

Final Arrest Attempt

The CCP authorities set up a massive surveillance system, monitoring all rental activities and phone lines of Falun Gong practitioners. They located Ms. Huang and her husband on the morning of October 30th, 2012, at Lingshan City, Guangxi. They ransacked their home and stole from them two notebook computers, two printers, a CD copier, camera, two mobile phones, a mobile hard disk, flash drive, tablet computer, and several thousand CDs. It was said that the police departments of Nanning, Qinzhou and Lingshan as well as various 610 Offices participated in this action.

By the time of the arrest, Ms. Huang was already manifesting serious illness symptoms. Upon entering the apartment to arrest the couple, the CCP personnel videotaped the scene and took photos while attempting to take Ms. Huang away. They later changed tactics in fear of having to take responsibility for Ms. Huang's illness. They instead interrogated her husband for seven hours, trying to obtain information about other Falun Gong practitioners. When they failed to get the information they wanted, they told Ms. Huang and her husband to have a good rest and left. However, they had arranged people at nearby intersections to monitor the couple. Despite the stakeout, Ms. Huang and her husband managed to escape after much effort. The authorities dispatched a large number of police officer to mount a search, and posted public notices offering rewards to whomever supplied information about Ms. Huang's whereabouts. They also monitored other practitioners in Lingshan City.

Ms. Huang reached Guangzhou City by a circuitous route. She had to sleep in public places because she couldn't stay at hotels. Under the mental and physical pressure she contacted her family for help. Because the CCP had threatened her family that if they couldn't find Ms. Huang their jobs would be at stake, her family members forcibly took Ms. Huang back home. Her husband had to move from place to place and could not return home to take care of his wife because he was listed as wanted by the CCP.

The Nanning police stopped their three-day search when they heard that Ms. Huang had returned home. They came to Guangzhou and transferred the so-called evidence they'd collected over the years to the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division of Huadu District, Guangzhou City. Staff from these agencies came to Ms. Huang's home to see her, and they ordered her elder brother and the security guards of her residential community to monitor her activities. They also frequently made phone calls to ask about Ms. Huang and her husband's situations.

Under this tremendous mental and physical pressure, Ms. Huang attempted multiple times to escape this oppressive environment. However, her illness rendered her incapable of escaping. Her health deteriorated rapidly until she was comatose. Her family took her to the hospital around December 1st, 2012. Even during her hospital stay, personnel from the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division of Huadu District still went to the hospital to “check on her condition.”

Ms. Huang passed away on the morning of December 17th, 2012 at the Oriental and Western Medicine Hospital of Huadu District, Guangzhou City under the tremendously oppressive persecution from the CCP. Her eldest brother also died in December 2012 in grief. Their elderly parents cried constantly, from the sorrow of losing their children.

During the 13 years of persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have faced hatred, torture, and even death with great benevolence and unyielding spirit. This group of cultivators practices Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and simply strives for justice in their lives. The CCP has created innumerable family tragedies throughout China, forcing countless harmonious families to break up, countless elderly parents to suffer the sorrow of losing their children, and countless young children to lose their parents. Countless practitioners have been rendered homeless, unable to see their families, simply because they persist in their beliefs. Meanwhile, these law-enforcement personnel, who should be maintaining social justice, are instead persecuting good people who believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
