The Ordeal of a Village Couple in Zhejiang Province

Mr. Shi Xiaorong and his wife, Ms. Shi Meiying, are Falun Gong practitioners in a village in Yongkang City, Zhejiang Province who were sentenced to prison terms for exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and the persecution. They were physically abused and injected with unknown drugs, which caused them to suffer from oedema. The wife passed away in 2011 as a result of the persecution, and the husband was recently arrested again. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Shi Meiying was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2001 for mailing out informational letters about Falun Gong. Dongyang Court officials handed down the verdict. Ms. Shi was sent to Zhejiang Women's Prison, where she was injected with unknown drugs. After she was released, her entire body swelled up. Her husband, Mr. Shi, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, and held in Linping No.4 Prison in Yuhang. Mr. Shi was physically abused and also suffered from oedema when he returned home from prison in 2007. When the couple was imprisoned, their daughter, 14, and son, 11, were left at home without their parents' care.

After the couple returned home from prison, Yongkang City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) agents frequently came to their home to harass them. They were arrested again on August 27th, 2010, and their home was ransacked. They were held in the Shimen Farm Brainwashing Centre for more than a month. The perpetrators were the officers from the 610 Offices in Jinhua City and Yongkang City, along with staff members of Tangxian Town government and officers from the Xiangzhu Police Station.

Yongkang City 610 Office agents did not stop persecuting the couple. In early 2011 they claimed to be taking the couple to Jinhua City to force them to practise a different kind of qigong. Mr. Shi's wife was seriously ill at the time. As a result of more than 10 years of persecution her entire body was swollen. When she passed away on June 17th, 2011, she was only 48 years old.

Mr. Shi Xiaorong was arrested on the morning of October 16th, 2012. Participating in the arrest were officers from Tangxian Town government and the Yongkang City 610 Office. His current whereabouts are unknown.
