To Complain Shows Looking Outwards and a Lack of Compassionate Thoughts

At the exercise site, many practitioners have noticed that some fellow practitioners sometimes showed “complaining” in their spoken language. I myself experienced this condition too. So, this is why I’d like to share my personal realization on this and talk about my understanding of such an attachment as “complaining”.

As an assistant, I have relatively less time to study the Fa as I spend more time in the issues of organization and Fa-spreading at the exercise site. At the end of the 3rd year after I started to practise cultivation, I started to notice the condition that I often had arguments with fellow practioners in solving problems, and the condition that I always tried my best to prove that my point of view was correct. After a while, I found that some fellow practitioners experienced the same condition as I did. When there existed different opinions at the exercise site, some practitioners invariably looked outward sharply for solutions to problems. Take for example, calling practitioners in another city for help to solve conflicts, making complaints about other practitioners, forgetting to look inward, and thinking habitually: Why aren’t those people willing to share their opinions with me? Why don’t they understand my point of view? We need to know that there won’t be some “kind Uncle” to solve all problems for us in practising cultivation. If it were that case, how would we become enlightened? How do we upgrade ourselves in practising cultivation?

I came to understand in our Master’s Fa lectures: It all depends on ourselves to become realised in practising cultivation, and we cannot look outward; we must spend more time in studying the Fa, and take it seriously. All the answers to our questions are in the Fa. In practising cultivation, we are to upgrade our xinxing. We should request ourselves to act up to the standard of a cultivator rather than to look specifically for fellow practitioners’ shortcomings.

This condition appears because of the influence of the attachment of fame and interest, i.e. the attachment that others should listen to ones’ own opinion. We are Dafa practitioners and the energy field of our benevolence is radiant. When people sense this energy field, they will approach us, approach Dafa. The outcome, however, will be reversed if our benevolence is replaced with complaints about others. Our Master said in Falun Dafa (Lecture in Singapore), “I am bound to point out to you, to expose all your attachments; if I do not do it myself, I will ask others to do so.”

I came to realise that a “complaint” is some kind of deeply hidden attachment. Besides, during the last period of Fa-rectification, this attachment is taken advantage of by the evil old-force beings escaping from the dimension from where they had been cleaned up by the power of Fa-rectification. They are now interfering with the Fa-rectification.

When I noticed my condition as described, I felt that I was not qualified to spread the Dafa of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance to people, as I failed to demonstrate the compassion of a Dafa practitioner, and I was often acrimonious and harsh, of which such a condition could only push people away from Dafa. Hence, I voluntarily left the position as an assistant so that I could spend more time studying the Fa, upgrading xinxing, and having myself purified.

I came to realise that there exist different forms that get rid of attachments. I can study the Fa at the exercise site every day, also can I study the Fa by myself every day? What is most important is that any attachment can only be got rid of by studying the Fa, and it is also the only way.

As it was not only I myself who “complained” at that time but also several other senior practitioners who did the same at the exercise site, it was impossible to get rid of the attachments altogether (because there existed no “shared language.”) So I left the exercise site for a period of time, and I practised cultivation myself. Under such a condition I could only complain about myself (as there was no chance for me to complain about others and then I got more time to study the Fa.) Just like this, problems were gradually solved day after day.

The way to solve problems is to reinforce ourselves to study the Fa no matter whether we are at home or in the office. As long as I have time, I study the Fa for two or three lectures per day. Sometimes I study four. After two months, I noticed that I had changed towards becoming more compassionate; I did not emphasise myself nor had any wish to defend myself when exchanging my opinions with others. After half a year, I found that whenever I had something to tell fellow practitioners, I always had in mind, “Do not force others and let him/her decide what to do according to what s/he has realised. It was like this when my thoughts of complaints were replaced by compassionate thoughts after one-year of enhanced Fa study. Now, I feel that I am qualified to spread the Fa to others.

I decided to write my realisation on this because those practitioners who firstly exposed their attachments of “complaining” at the exercise site haven’t upgraded themselves up to this point. They work very hard in clarifying the truth and Fa-spreading but spend little time in studying the Fa, which has naturally made them stay at a certain level of cultivation for a long period of time and fail to see their attachments. Besides, this condition can only bring losses to Dafa. I realised that what is important is not how much you do but whether you do things with the attitude of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. At the same time, I learned to look inward and to get rid of my attachment of complaining as early as possible in practising cultivation: being impatient to practitioners, being fond of arguing, being proud, and being selfish, etc.

I hope my writing on the realisation of this point may help those practitioners who have exposed their attachments of complaining but have not yet recognised them. In addition, I think it’s important not to forget the point that each practitioner has different enlightenment quality and different level of xinxing. We usually hope other practitioners come to realise something as soon as possible, so we start to “pull their socks” up just to make them understand what we have come to realise. This is the excuse coming from the attachment of “complaining”. Others may spend some time before they realise due to karma, enlightenment quality, etc. And we, however, force them to realise it now.

My personal realisation is that as long as you find any behaviour not aligned to Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, do not let go the effect of human sentimentality and do not look outward. The reason actually lies inside us. Our Master has been teaching us to learn to look inward in his lectures. So when dealing with conflicts, we must calm down, study the Fa seriously (put other things aside if possible), and do our best to fulfill our inner side together with the environment surrounding us with benevolent light.
