Dafa practitioner He Yuanchao is a native of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. On May 15, 2002 police at the Kunming Railway Station arrested him without a specific reason. Later, Kunming Railway Forced Labour Commission authorities sentenced him to a labour camp for one year and nine months, although he has committed no crime. He is being detained at Division No.6 in the Yunnan Province No. 2 Forced Labour Camp.

He Yuanchao's sentence was solely based on his belief in Falun Gong. At the time of his sentence he was suffering from an injury. The labour camp not only forbade him treatment, but also forced him to perform hard labour. They threatened to punish him if he did not co-operate.

The labour camp hospital took an X-ray of He Yuanchao and found that his right arm had a compound fracture and required surgery, but the labour camp authorities denied him treatment, knowing full well that he faced a lifetime of disability if he were not treated. When He Yuanchao complained that his right arm hurt and could not function normally, the camp ignored the symptom, saying they saw nothing wrong.

He Yuanchao held a hunger strike to protest the inhumane treatment. The labour camp ruthlessly had eight people pin him down and force-feed him.
