Practitioner Ms. Liu Huijn, 70, was a retired employee of the Yushu City Housing Company in Jilin Province. She started cultivating Falun Dafa in 1996. After July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal many times, and was arrested and detained repeatedly. She once went on hunger strike for seven days before being released from a detention centre in Beijing. In the spring of 2000, she was once again arrested when she went to Beijing to appeal. Ms. Liu was detained for more than a month and extorted out of 1000 yuan1.

On February 28th, 2003, police officers from the Zhengyang Station stormed into Ms. Liu's home and arrested her and her husband (who is not a practitioner), so that police could hide in their home to arrest other practitioners that came by. In the detention centre, Domestic Security agents Zhang Deqing, Shi Hailin, and Zhang Zhen from Changchun City (all male) tortured Ms. Liu for two months by slapping her, kicking her, and suffocating her with a plastic bag, etc. She was then sentenced to forced labour and taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp. Because she had been severely tortured, Ms. Liu was rejected by the camp due to her physical condition. They released her after extorting 1500 yuan from her.

After Ms. Liu was released, she was constantly harassed. She had to hide at the homes of friends and relatives. She had to cover her face when she went outside so that the police would not recognise her. In the winter of 2004, agents Zhang Deqing and Shi Hailin, waiting outside her son's home, arrested her as soon as she stepped out of the home, and they interrogated her at the Domestic Security Division. They released her after she passed out.

During the past several years, financial extortion and mental and physical torture caused Ms. Liu to live in terror. The huge stress caused her to become sick with liver cancer. She died at just past 2:00 a.m. on December 19th, 2007.
