England: The People of Leeds Stop to Find Out About the Persecution
On October 14th, Falun Gong practitioners from various places in the north of England gathered at Dortmund Square in Leeds to spend the day introducing Falun Gong to local people and informing them about the persecution. Falun Gong practitioners practised the exercises while others collected signatures, handed out leaflets and spoke to people about the situation in China.
Practitioners erected a large white poster board carrying information about the Chinese Communist Party, explaining that it is a dictatorship allowing no freedom of speech or basic human rights. The posters carried information about the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square massacre. Such information enabled the reader to gain a greater understanding of what is quite un-known to them, a regime of horror. The other side carried some posters with larger text, looking at the many torture methods used against Falun Gong practitioners to stop their belief, such as forcing sharpened bamboo sticks under the fingernails - resulting in excruciating pain.
The poster display gave those walking by a great chance to learn about the situation in China and then to show their support by signing the petition calling for an end to this atrocity. The display also gave people the freedom to read information for themselves and make their own decisions about the persecution and provided an area to stop and talk to such people so as to thoroughly clarify the facts.
