Li Guoshun Persecuted to Death, Family Members Forced to Remain Silent
Falun Dafa practitioner Li Guoshun from Baisha Town, Longyan City, Fujian Province was arrested and imprisoned by police on August 23rd, 2004. He went on a hunger strike to protest and was persecuted to death on October 14th, 2004. Recently, the town police chief had someone convey a message to Li Guoshun's mother that if some people came to investigate Li Guoshun's case or asked about anything related to Falun Gong, she had to reply, "I don't know." Li Guoshun died a tragic death, and he was cremated by the authorities. His family members have not seen any medical records or postmortem examination reports. So far, they have no place to appeal, and their injustice cannot be redressed. Li Guoshun's mother often cries, but now she is actually being told to maintain silence about the police's crime. Mr. Li Guoshun was 27 years old. In August 2000, he was sent to a forced labour camp for one year for going to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. He was released on August 9th, 2001. In December 2001, he was again sent to a forced labour camp for two years because some leaflets exposing the persecution were discovered at his residence.
It has been reported that on the day when Li Guoshun was sent to the hospital, he was extremely thin, his limbs were icy cold, he was handcuffed under the quilt, his lower body was naked, and his buttocks were very red and ulcerated. Afterwards, the detention centre refused to pay the fee, and the hospital forced Li's family members to pay, threatening to withhold medical treatment. The family members implored the physician-in-charge many times, asking her to treat Li Guoshun with every effort. The physician-in-charge just shook her head and told the family members' that Li was beyond hope. The detention centre chief tried to get the family members to leave several times to prevent them from having private talks with the doctor. Li Guoshun died 10 days later on October 14th, 2004.
