Translation of the Chinese lyrics:

The demonic tribulation may appear as large as a mountain,
But the Fa1 is even bigger than the sky.
Just as Tripitaka had to go through 81 tribulations to acquire the Buddhism scriptures,
There are bound to be tribulations during a cultivation practice.
When a cultivator understands the Fa,
His mind becomes tranquil and no longer troubled.
When a cultivator governs himself with Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance,
Tribulations will only reinforce his will to complete his cultivation.
In order to spread Falun Dafa to the world,
My honorable Teacher has been suffering myriads of tribulations.
Although it is extremely challenging and exhausting to offer people his salvation,
Teacher now has over 100 million disciples.

My life may be as important as a mountain,
But the Truth is more important than the sky.
There are many fellow practitioners incarcerated in prison.
Each month there are new faces.
We express our concern for each other with our eyes.
Our hearts are connected when we smile at each other.
Blocking the river will only make the current stronger.
Imprisoning a cultivator will only reinforce his will.
I do not fear death
For the Buddha resides in my mind.
I have not lived my life in vain
For I have obtained the Fa after thousands of years of waiting.

Freedom may be precious as a mountain,
But Teacher’s grace is larger than the sky.
He teaches me the Buddha Fa.
Thus I understand the Truth.
I shall lead my life in morality and in dignity.
I shall temper my will in fiery tests.
I shall validate the Fa with my actions.
The bitter tribulations I suffer to validate the Fa will taste sweet to me.
I am immensely fortunate to obtain the Fa.
I am going to return to my true home with Teacher.

About Ms. Gao Qiuju:

Ms. Gao Qiuju is a Falun Gong practitioner in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China and was Head Volunteer Assistant of Falun Gong volunteer group practices in Dalian City. She is currently incarcerated in a prison in China. She has repeatedly suffered from many types of appalling torture, including the excruciating finger impaling torture.3 She wrote the lyrics of this song from prison.

There is a famous story about Ms. Gao Qiuju before Jiang Zemin started to openly persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Many Falun Gong practitioners around the world still reference this story today when practitioners divide into different groups because they hold fast to different opinions. At the Falun Gong exercises group practice site that Ms. Gao usually attended, Falun Gong practitioners once got into an argument about changing the morning schedule of the group exercise practice and thus split into two groups. One group suggested starting the group exercise practice at 5:00 a.m. and the other suggested 6:00 a.m. At first, Ms. Gao tried to appease them by suggesting 5:30 a.m., but neither group was willing to make a compromise. Ms. Gao decided that she should first study the Fa before she tried to solve the conflict. During Fa study 9sudy of the Falun Gong teachings), she came across a passage in “Non-Omission in Buddha-Nature” of Essentials for Further Advancement:

“I also want to tell you that your nature in the past was actually based on egotism and selfishness. From now on, whatever you do, you should consider others first, so as to attain the righteous Enlightenment of selflessness and altruism. So from now on, whatever you do or whatever you say, you must consider others—or even future generations—along with Dafa’s eternal stability. ”

The passage of the Fa enlightened Ms. Gao on the conflict. She went back to the Falun Gong practitioners at her practice site and read them the above passage of the Fa. Next she said, “Whether you insisted on starting at 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m., you were being selfish.” Then she asked the group that suggested 5:00 a.m., “What time do you want the group practice to start?” “Whichever time others suggest is fine with us,” they replied. Then she turned to the other group, “What time do you want the group practice to start?” They gave the same reply. Thus everyone saw his or her selfishness. The conflict disappeared because everyone’s xinxing (or morality) was enhanced.
