Sweden: Appealing to the Public to Pay Attention to Human Rights in China on Santa Lucia Day

December the 13th is Santa Lucia Day in Sweden. This is a day of feasting dedicated to a virgin saint named Lucia, who lived in southern Italy. She lost her eyesight and eventually her life due to Christian persecution. People in northern Europe treat this day as a holiday that aspires to brightness and wonderfulness so as to ease the December darkness. Because it is a holiday, and is close to Christmas, many people go shopping on this day.

Malmo is a sister city of Tangshan in China. Taking advantage of Santa Lucia Day, Falun Gong practitioners in Malmo explained the persecution that Falun Gong practitioners have suffered in Tangshan, and brought the people of Malmo’s attention to the persecution in China. Practitioners displayed cases of persecution that have occurred in Tangshan, including the death and brutal torture of Falun Gong practitioners.

Falun Gong practitioners also collected signatures on an open letter that calls upon the Malmo city government to monitor the situation of human rights in Tangshan.
