Hao Shaoshen, a 66-year-old farmer, lived in Yuanyang County, Henan Province. He was put in Yuanyang County Detention Centre by Yuanwu Township Police in August 2000 and was treated miserably there for two months for practising Falun Gong. After the police extorted 800 Yuan from him, he was released. In November, the police arrested him again. He escaped from the police station that night, with his strong belief in Dafa. To avoid further persecution, he stayed away from home from then on. His family was poor in the first place. His children were persecuted one after another because they also practised Falun Gong. Mr. Hao was forced to work at odd jobs in order to survive. After staying at a number of places, he settled on a farm in Inner Mongolia, and died in Karichu Village, Yili Township of Inner Mongolia.

His son Hao Xiaochun, 30 years old, was also a farmer. Yuanwu Police Station officers took Hao Xiaochun from his home on February 8, 2001 and put him in Yuanyang County Detention Centre for four months because he practised Falun Gong. While there, he was tied up, handcuffed, beaten up and verbally abused by a policeman named Jin. Then he was sent to Xuchang Labour Camp and persecuted there for a year.

Another son, Hao Tiansong, 36 years old, also a farmer, was taken from his home by Yuanyang Police and sent to Yuanyang County Detention Centre. He was imprisoned there for a month, abused during his detention and forced to pay a 10,000-Yuan fine. [Yuan is the Chinese currency. 500 Yuan is the average monthly salary for an urban worker in China].
