On July 17, 2002, Li Hongbin's family announced that three days earlier, Li had been killed. The labour camp claimed that he died of a sudden heart attack, but his family said Li was suffocated during force-feeding, and died with his eyes wide open. To date, three practitioners in Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province have been tortured to death.
