Before the 2002 Spring Festival, 610 Offices [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] from Shuangyang, Luxiang, Qijia, and Sheling districts together with officials from the Politics and Law Committee and the Political Protection Department started to conduct unlawful arrests and torturing on a wide-scale. They climbed residents' courtyard walls in the middle of the night and searched their houses without providing any search warrants. As soon as they discovered anything related to Falun Gong, they arrested the person right away. Later, they did not bother to search people's homes; they simply arrested all the practitioners who were on their list. Many practitioners used wisdom to escape. Most practitioners left their homes to avoid arrest and seven were unlawfully arrested. Chi Yuhua (female) and three other practitioners were illegally sentenced to forced labour camps.
