METRO [UK newspaper]: Protest greets Chinese leader 1 Nov. 2001 Chinese vice president Hu Jintao arrived in Scotland yesterday on the latest leg of his five-day visit to Britain. The statesman, who is tipped as a future leader of China, was greeted with protests by around 30 people from members of Falun Gong, who gathered at Edinburgh’s Botanic Garden … The group believes in a peaceful exercise and meditation system for the mind, body and spirit, and members put on a short display as the vice president walked by. They were protesting about the Chinese Government’s decision to ban Falun Gong in 1999, accusing the leadership of “horrendous oppression”.
