Wang was detained on August 21, 2001 while painting Falun Dafa phrases outside with two other practitioners from Dezhou City in Shandong Province and Hebei Province. He went on hunger strike for 15 days and was tortured to death on September 6. His family saw his body at Yanggu County Hospital.
